E61 Towing options

Just recently bought myself a 2010 E61 M Sport
I need a tow bar for my bike rack and after a small amount of research it seems there are two types of rear diffuser, one with a tow flap and one without... guess which I have, without!
Has anyone fitted a tow bar with the "without flap" diffuser? Does it look ok after its all been cut away to allow for a tow bar? Or do I really need to have the correct one?
I use my bike rack maybe once/twice a week so I barely remove the tow bar unless but I like to have a detachable one so I can tidy the look of the car up if needed.
