E61-535d-LCI,

managed to force a DPF regen and give the car an oil change. Usual process of warm the car, off, drain through the sump and change the oil filter. I didn't measure exactly how much but it filled my 5ltr fully and then again about 2/3 of the way up so I'm sure that I got enough out.

I put in 8ltrs and it's still showing high.

Is there a way via ISTA or Bimmertool to see the actual oil level? Feel like I am going mad with this car

EDIT: Starting to wonder if I have overfilled it, Castrol website says 7.5-7.7ltrs....

Also wondering if this version of the M57 should have a dipstick, looks like it has everything but unsure what the cap is

Back right of the block pal; that's where it was on my E65 and the N57 on my F01

Deffo have a good look with a torch, they can be hidden away

But then some didn't have a physical dipstick rolleyes

BMW Manual at https://5series.net/info/2006_5_Series_Manual_UK.p... (page 222) says it takes 8.5 litres when changing oil filter.

If curiosity hasn't the better of you by now; that is the engine dipstick.

The M57 in my E91 335d has a specific oil level check procedure. Run engine to operating temp. Turn off, wait 5 mins. Check oil level. If you don’t do it this way you’ll get an incorrect reading. Your 535d has the same engine so I’d expect the process is the same.

Lads, I have to turn in my car enthusiast badge, all these years I thought that it was a blanked off oil tube. Had to give it some force to get it out but all is sorted, appreciate all the help.

Turns out I am mad & I need to get off nightshifts....

I know! Thoroughly ashamed, even MrsB said all the work you've done on it, isn't a dipstick something that would be obvious to you?
