XF now sold and gone, what next?

Up until this week I had a 2018/68 XF 2.0d R-Sport Black Edition, bought in Jan 2021 at 18k miles for slightly over £20k, sold on Wednesday to Big Wants Your Car, at 62k miles for £14k. I was delighted with this price, I expected £12k!

So, what next?

I like saloons or bigger hatchbacks, not an SUV. Needs to be 21 plate or newer, under 30k miles, automatic, diesel as I do a lot of running around town, and trips to both our offices, one is an 80 mile round trip, the other is 450.

Budget around £24k.

My 'saved' list in AT is about 40 cars, but I think these are favourites up to now...

Take a good look at the last of line Insignia they're very good (I'd take one over the Skoda offerings) car.

Funnily enough, I have all three of those saved!

I like the Mazda, but economy is not great.

I'm very tempted by the Insignia, just need to get over the fact that it's a Vauxhall really.

Assuming you actually enjoy driving and you have the XF for the way it handles then you would be disappointed with just about all of your list so far. I would be looking at an Alfa Giulia as a logical next step from the XF.

I was going to suggest Lexus as something a bit different. From the cars posted I’d go 508. I know nothing about it but to me stands out from the others.

Coming from a 4 pot diesel I didn't think the bar was very high.......

Depends on if you think the badge dictates how good a car is or isn't.

The engine doesn't detract from a good chassis/gearbox, as always the OP needs to buy a car that suits THEIR usage not anyone's on here

CVT is pretty good unless you thrash it but will still sound better than the XF!

Given the woeful economy of the XF I would take the IS300 any day

It's a left field choice - but worth mentioning

Either of the Skodas get my vote. Don't like the steering wheel in the latest Octavia though, I'd want to change it for an older 3 spoke if it was possible. Other than that fantastic cars.
