Connecting an ipod to standard Pioneer stereo

Has anyone done this at all? Just been gifted an ipod and wouldn't mind getting it hooked up somehow to the Sagaris when it eventually arrives.

Found this - has anyone used one? And are they any good? Don't want to have to change or upgrade the standard stereo just to make use of the ipod.

And before you say it, yep I know noise of the car is the best music, but nowt like playing a good driving track now and again .

I have not heard particularly good things about this add-on - reports are that is it slow changing track and the display lags behind your selection. I don't have first hand experience of this though - just what I hear.

It only works with 'dock enabled' iPods - that's 3rd generation and newer. I contacted Pioneer to inform them their literature is incorrect and it doesn't work with 2nd generation ipods but they still keep advertising that it does.

I ended up buying a simple £20 cable that connects to the multi-chager input and works great

Surely second generation are the first dock enabled ones? Mine is.

I bought an FM transmitter on ebay for about £9 which means I can plug it into any music device that has an earphone socket, tune the radio into the relevant frequency & Bob is your Dads sisters husband (uncle)......

That's 3rd gen. Apple told me:

1st gen = mechanical scroll wheel/click 5gb (later 10gb). Firewire.
2nd gen = touch sensitive scroll wheel+wheel buttons 10gb/20gb. firewire.
3rd gen = touch sensitive scroll + top buttons. Dock connector.
4th gen = touch sensitive scroll + integral buttons. Dock connector.
etc...

I've got the unit in my Sagaris connected to the AVIC-1 nav head unit and it works very well... not had any problems, reacts well and lets me use all of the search features straight from the head unit.

Another big bonus is it's a single lead, no extra power leads just plug and go.

Surprisingly good ! Certainly as good as Radio 1. The only potential problem is if someone (in a traffic jam) is using the same frequency as you !
