840i Gran Coupe
Discussion
I've been driving 4wd BMW's and Audi's for a good few years and currently have a 730 xdrive. We don't live totally out in the sticks, but in winter the roads very occasionally get a bit icy/snowy...hence the 4wd which does come in useful.
I'm looking to change and really fancy an 840i Gran Coupe but the xdrive diesels are a bit like hens teeth so....will I regret it if I buy a rwd 840i? Anyone with real world experience, esp in crappy winter weather? I did think about rwd with winter tyres but the local BWM dealership suggested getting winter tyres for the 20inch wheels could be a bit tricky. Seems to check out after a brief enquiry with kwik fit. Again, anyone managed to get winter tyres for an 840i?
Thanks folks

Your best bet will be to see if you're able to drop to 18s or 19s on them and then fit winter tyres to themI'm looking to change and really fancy an 840i Gran Coupe but the xdrive diesels are a bit like hens teeth so....will I regret it if I buy a rwd 840i? Exactly what I did with my 730D; sold the 20s, ran 19s for summers and 18s for winters with winter tyres
BMW will be able to tell you what the dedicated winter wheel set up will be; just copy that with use alloys if you can

This is Pistoheads! Get the M850i
If I had the budget I would. Wait....I don't actually need 2 kidneys, right?I ran a 840i GC for 26 months. Lovely car! I would have another in a heartbeat! I can't help you on the original question though I'm afraid. Good luck in your search!
Mind out for the sodding B-pillar - it's all-too-easy to catch it with your shoulder getting in as you drop into the seat. In fact it pings off if you even look at it wrong; I ended up keeping a pack of the yellow trim clips in the car to replace the ones that broke every time it became dislodged!
Other than that they're lovely cars, enjoy! What colour combo is yours? Mine was Dravit Grey with black interior and I always regretted not being a little bolder and going for the cognac instead.

Sounds nice though. Mines Black Sapphire metallic with black interior. Looks the biz actually, esp with the chrome exterior trim - sort of contrasts the black on black.Other than that they're lovely cars, enjoy! What colour combo is yours? I've never dislodged the b pillar trim....
Give it time...I had it happen to passengers too, resulting in them being mortified... it's because the trim halfway up is bevelled the 'wrong' way, ie. it sticks out into the aperture - particularly if you have the seat some way back.
