Scooting about this weekend the following occurred to me. Does a Gatso differentiate between me in my Elise doing 80 on a dual carriageway & some nob towing a caravan or trailer doing the same speed? NO I''m exceeding the sped limit by 10mph - oh my God! He''s exceeeding the speed limit by 20mph in something that will be dangerous under emergency braking - where''s the fuzz when you need them?? Caravans have their own brakes, that work via a schok absorber. So the brake distance should be of by just a few meters. On my father's caravan, the brake distance even decreases. Depends on how it's set up. Not that's it smart speeding with a caravan, but braking isn't effected much. If they are out for speeders, they'll sooner take the caravan than the sportscar. As my uncle, a pensioned Rijkswacht commander, told me.

I don't think many of the caravans (i.e. all the OLD ones) have very good brakes (if any!) You should need additional training before you can tow. I have seen the very bad consequence of not knowing how to tow (snaking caravan, driver brakes, caravan overtakes the car!) just my two peneth Sparks

All caravans should be restricted to motorways / dual carriageways on a Wednesday night between 0200 and 0400 only.

Do these people have something against hotel owners? Who wants to drive hundreds of miles towing a tin box - where's the fun in that? & while I'm bitchin, static caravans are an eyesore - what's wrong with buying a log cabin instead? - it much more environmentally friendly. boll@~ boll?@ boll:{ I think I'm losing it, I need a holiday!!! Man you guys are arrogant bastids. How you can hate someone for a thing like caravans is beyond my comprehension.

But everyone hates caravans. Did anyone see the Jeremy Clarkson program, he also hates the things but had a few suggestions on making them more pleasurable, one was put a telly in the back window, the other was the driver’s daughter striping in the back. Well what d’ya think?

Surely if you're spending upwards of £8k on a shed with wheels then it must be the choice between the aforementioned shed & a sunday sports car? Nuff said CJ

I've made a similar point about HGV's in roadworks. They can only ever do 50 but they don't have to slow down for road works. Makes absolutely no sense at all. But as someone pointed out, you couldn't enforce a 30 limit on HGV's with a Gatso - lack of discrimination. What the hell, so the safety aspect is compromised a bit - no matter its only a revenue raising issue anyway.

It's simple. Tax caravans with 30 % of their value per year. They will dissapear. yo
