Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi - Anything to look out for?

Gf has seen one of these, 2012 plate, 95,000 miles with FSH (although I've not seen the history), for what is basically shed money. Is there anything in particular to look for, maintenance wise, or on the vehicle itself? I presume the regular belts, water pump etc. Is rust a known issue?
From what I've read from the Astra owners group I visit, the main issue on the A20DTH engine is the oil pickup seal can go hard which then sucks in air causing oil starvation. This leads to an oil pressure low warning on startup, eventually possibly engine failure.
You could argue that if this one's been fine up until now it's probably ok, or you could negotiate some money off or get the pickup seal replaced as part of the deal? Depends how lucky you're feeling I suppose!

We have had our 2014 facelift elite for about 2.5 years now, i think it was on 125k miles when we bought it.
We did the oil pick up seal and changed the (auto) gearbox oil and its been brilliant for dad duties + holidays.
Its on 142k miles now and everything works as it should, the fit and finish is good and its a very comfy cruiser.
As you are in Yorkshire, there is a Vaux specialist in Keighley, he has very good reviews and is reasonably priced (or was 2-3 years ago).
We ended up doing the work ourselves in the end, but i would have used him otherwise.

Get the pick up changed it's a £200 job but a great piece of preventative maintenance, negotiate that off of the price & you'll have a good family car.I ran a 2011 insignia shed for a few years - decent cars - drove really nice.
Oil pickup thingy has been mentioned - well worth sorting.
The EGR cooler cover can crack and leak coolant - 25 quid part and an hour bruised knuckles to change.
Mine seemed to eat ABS sensors for breakfast but again, easy fix.

I've bought one of these today, I'll book in for the oil pickup seal to be done ASAP.
However, are they all really bloody noisy?
Not a DMF thing or anything, no change with clutch depressed etc
But it sounds like a transit van. I'm hoping this is normal and not the start of the pickup seal issue mentioned above.

Maybe needs an oil change, or put a slightly thicker grade of oil in? Also when it goes for a service or MOT (or if you have access to a ramp) just check the exhaust for any holes?

The 2.0 CDTi engine is by any standard an old unit with way more clatter than the 1.6 'Whisper' diesels that you could buy alongside it. I had the same engine in my Astra GTC SRi and it was notably noisy on start up although not really intrusive when driving. However if it's really rattling or banging, particularly at speed then there is definitely something up. However, are they all really bloody noisy?

They are overall great engines for their task.

Get the pick up pipe & an oil change done then see how it sounds but as a rule they're not overly noisy.However, are they all really bloody noisy?

Thanks all. Asking on the owners Facebook page and a quick Google suggests a lot of people have very noisy 2.0 CDTIs and it's very common.
Will get some quotes for the oil pickup seal anyway as its good preventative maintenance and an oil change can never hurt although it's recently had one.
