As the Volvo EX30 thread is crossing over to the new Smart #1 quite a bit, I’m starting this so the Smarts can have their own place. They’re based on the same platform as the EX30, the #1 is a similar size, but longer wheelbase so has a bit more cabin room, the #3 is longer.

I’ll copy the Fully Charged video over from the EX30 thread, and Autogefuhl has a video on the Smart #3 out now.

Have at it.

I was interested, but the guy was not exactly succinct, and I lost interest after 2 minutes.
Still upwards of £35k

Was meant to be looking at the #1 on Saturday but the mercedes dealer messed me about so I cancelled it and will go and take a look when I get some time off.

Looks like a good replacement for my wifes Seat Mii but might be too pricey in comparison.

Autogefuhl on the Smart #3 Brabus. Longer and lower than the #1 so suspension on the longer wheelbase is better. A few other differences to the #1.

There's a lower price Smart #1 model with a 49kwh (instead of 62kwh) battery for £31,950, it's £4k cheaper than the 62kwh Smart, the 62kwh battery was the only battery size available until now. The 49kwh battery is the same as the base £33,795 Volvo EX30. https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/smart-1-...

My #1 Brabus arrived on Friday. First EV, never even driven one before, never seen one out on the road. Damn it's quick! But I've not arranged a home charger yet and hadn't ordered the Charge Place Scotland charge card so been a bit nervous about doing too many miles in it.

It's a lovely place to sit, all of the driver aids seem pretty good, commuting should be a lot more pleasant than before.

Couple of teething issues, one of the speakers is blown which ruins the 13 speaker Beats audio experience, all of the equaliser settings were turned up to max so suspect some idiot was finding out how loud it could go. The bonnet catch needs adjusted and almost left me stranded with it open and the amount of bings it fires at you as driver alerts can be annoying, but that seems to be the way we're going! Oh and range seems to be well under 200 at the moment but that's with quite a few plays in Brabus mode.

Overall I'm delighted with it.

The base Volvo isn't out yet, so that £33,795 by my maths, is a 57kwh battery. Configurator shows 16.7kwh/100km, and a range of 213.8 miles. If you convert miles to km, thats 342km range and at 16.7kwh/100km, makes the battery size 57kwh. As I understand it, a £32k version is coming soon, so that may well be the 49kwh battery version.

Anyway, had a look on the smart configurator. Clicked the duo colour version of the base model and not a bad spec at all for the money. Heated seats, electric seats, memory seats, glass roof with electric blind, dual tone colour scheme, LED headlights and rear lights, blind spot detection plus many other safety features. Its an incredibly well specced car for the money.

Are there any ICE cars in that price bracket that have such an extensive list of features that come as standard? Its an impressive list, thats for sure.

There's a bigger Smart #5 coming, 4.7m long so around the size of a Mach-E or Model Y. https://uk.motor1.com/news/731127/smart-5-new-desi...

The sketches are showing a squarer body than those though. The Brabus version might be around 600bhp. It's probably a Geely platform share with the Volvo EX60 out next year.

Official release yesterday:

Looks pretty good to me at first glance, but my personal issue with Smart
(and other electric only marques such as Tesla/BYD for that matter) is the
woeful lack of a decent dealer network; I live just north of Lancaster and
would have to travel all the way to Stockport as I had to do (several times!)
when I owned a Tesla.

What do car manufacturers have against Lancashire?! frown

My Smart #1 Brabus was delivered to me on Monday 4th May and was covered in scratches to the bonnet, roof etc. The delivery driver said it had been on the top deck of the Transporter and he had gone under low hanging trees that must have caused the damage. He detailed the damage on the delivery note, and agreed with my assessment. I took photos and then emailed the lease company. I advised them that I would be rejecting the car unless the damage was corrected to my satisfaction.

After various emails and calls from me to the Lease company and then to the supplying dealer, they asked me to have an inspection completed by a local detailer. I arranged this and after his inspection there were various scratches on almost every panel. After receiving his report, photographs, and cost to correct the damage, they agreed to the work being completed and I arranged for them to pay him directly. Although it was inconvenient not driving the car until he received payment (8 days from delivery date), I am happy as knowing the Detailers work it will be in better than new condition once he has finished the work on it. Dropped the car off on Sunday to him with 301 miles on it, and look forward to getting it back in better than new condition. The lease deal including full maintenance was £374 on a 1+23 months on 8K miles. The interior is great and the performance will surprise many… wink

Be good to hear from other owners on their experience with The new range of Smarts. This is our fourth Smart, having previously owned the following:

Smart ForTwo Spring Edition Convertible for around 18 months.
Smart ForTwo Brabus for around two years.
Smart Roadster Brabus Coupe for just under 11 years.

Been a member of various Smart clubs over the years and lucky enough to have had Sam at Smart Car Scotland look after the previous cars. Look forward to showing him the latest version when I get it back from the Detailer… wink

My #3 Brabus, ordered in April 2025 for delivery in October, was an agreed "factory order".

It was built in November 2024, had sand \ silt in the door handles, mould on rear seatbelts when extended, ill fitting trim and weak washer jets (may be a feature...).

The lease company argued with Smart as to whether it was a "factory order", but without conclusion.

Great car to drive, relentless performance, but the infotainment was very poor - so many taps \ swipes \ no I don't want that etc.

Due to a change (loss! hehe) in employment, as a salary sacrifice it went back at 7 months. I won't miss it!

It's funny, my Smart Roadster, many years ago, was flawed but fun also.
