X3M Competition 2019 - What extras/options to look out for

Hi Matt, they actually come pretty well specced as standard.
For me the first thing I looked for was a panoramic sunroof and an interior that wasn’t black, but thats my personal preference as I prefer a lighter interior - can’t spec a pan roof on an M3 touring, so its one thing that sets the X3M apart from that.
I’ve got a later X3M, but having come from a 2019 X3 M40i before it I actually preferred the look of the more traditional dash with round dials. The full digital dash arrived in 2020 I think & it comes with idrive7, which I do think is better. If you can find a car with apple carplay then thats a plus, but I think its possible to add that anyway.
The other good extra to have I think is the enhanced bluetooth & wireless charging - the earlier cars pre-dated the chip shortage when extras like by the wireless charging tray were deleted. The HK sound is standard on the X3M. Sun protection glass is a popular option.
I had gesture control and display key on my M40i, in my opinion they are gimmicks that I haven’t missed on my X3M at all.
Used supply is increasing as folk who took up the great finance deals which were on offer four years ago start to trade in, so that may start to push prices below the current £45k floor? Also be mindful of the higher insurance before you sign on the line - a symptom mainly of the surge in relay thefts. Insurance is nearly double what I paid for the M40i, & I had to have an S5 tracker installed to get insurance too. On reflection I’m pleased I went for a more muted outside colour so hopefully its a little less conspicuous. I’ve got a Stoplock Pro Elite which is always on the steering wheel when I’m not driving. The comfort package is a popular option with some nice extras but it includes comfort access - sounds like BMW have gradually improved security around their keyless access, but I still take no chances & always have key in a faraday pouch.
Don’t mean this all sounds negative though - I’m enjoying my X3M, love it in fact, & I think the ride is fine too! - whilst the low end torque felt a bit better in the M40i, I don’t notice the ride being any firmer. As well as being able to really shift, I also think it makes a great noise.

I had an X3M with the ultimate pack, so pretty much all options.
I’d say the sunroof, comfort pack, visibility and technology plus packs are all options to aim for.
The sunroof was a must, really lightened the interior and added a lot to the atmosphere.
The comfort pack was great, keyless opening worked well and the heated steering wheel was surprisingly nice (having thought it was not needed before trying it).
The wireless charging is good to have, but, as said above the gesture control is a gimmick, tried it a few times, have never missed it on the new car.
The adaptive lights were brilliant when doing cross country journeys at night on smaller roads and the adaptive cruise and steering assistance was really useful on any motorway trip.
The carbon packs looked ok but I probably would’ve bother again, the carbon rear diffuser stopped the hands free boot lid sensor from working.
Was a nice car.

I have a 21 plate X3M comp in Donnington grey. i would echo Pan roof is a must, comfort pack (though beware keep some extra battery keys in stock as they drain super fast) technology pack is a good one for the wireless charging pad. Front ventilated seats are nice but not a must have, same with rear heated seats. Personally the carbon interior lifts the front and makes you feel your in a M car.
On the insurance side i found it more reasonable than the competition i looked at a Range Rover Sport SVR which was around £3300 per Annum, i looked at a GLC63S AMG which was £2800 per Annum. I think even a Macan GTS was around £1500 per Annum, my X3M Comp with 1 claim and no points is around £750 per annum.
