The Category S Astra
Discussion
So we are about to pull the trigger on my wife’s replacement vehicle and was looking at trading in her old vehicle. The problem we have is it’s a category S Astra Elite and they only want to give us £2600 for it. I feel that is scandalous and I am half tempted to just buy the new car without trading in Astra.
I’m really into my cars and have a Mini Cooper S which I’ve had since March. It’s so much fun and I like the car but part of me feel I should let it go and take on the Astra for a couple of years.
It’s a 2016 model with only 52k on the clock but has many cosmetic issues and the touch screen is broken. Part of me likes the idea of selling the mini and putting the money into my saving. In the meantime I could run the Astra as my cheap shed for a while to get as much out of it as I can.
The other part of me was thinks I should just let it go and keep my mini.
What would you do ?

Thanks guys. I just feel there is more life in it and I could run it as a “shed”. I have no intention in sorting out any of the issues and happy just to run it. I could probably run it for 3 years and still get £2600 for it.
My thinking was it would give me time to wait on the market “crashing” if it ever does. In this thing I’d have no depreciation worries at all.

I can see your point and if you are happy to do some shedding then I agree make use of it. As you rightly point out it's not likely to drop much further if at all in terms of valueMy thinking was it would give me time to wait on the market “crashing” if it ever does. In this thing I’d have no depreciation worries at all.
