How to blag a new mobile??
Discussion
I have a pay monthly contract with Orange and currently use a nokia 3100. I've had it for absolutely ages, but it's getting knackered and i'd like to change it for the funkiest phone I can. I understand from previous posts that I can phone Orange and threaten to cancel my contract, and that Orange will then offer me another phone as an inducement to keep my business. Is this true? What other ways are there of blagging a new mobile for free??
ring them up rather than going into the dhop though I beleive (this is what I did after reccomendations on here) that you get the best offer from another provider, best phone free minutes etc
Then ring your current provider and say I can this from whoever can you do the same. I got a insertverylargenumberhere posted out to me the next day
If you are a regular user, they willl bend over backwards to keep you. Vodafone basically gave me anything i wanted after several threats to leave them. They did play hardball at first saying there was nothing more they could do, but after I got my PAK/PUK number, they were straight on the phone offering me more than anyone else would.
And don't even think about PAYING for a handset..........

I did this with Orange as my contract had come to an end and they wanted to charge me £100 to upgrade my phone to a K750i. Threatened to leave, they said go on then. So I did, ported my number across and got an absolutely fantastic deal with Vodafone, free K750i, half price line rental for 6 months (then reverts to £30) 200 mins xnet, 250 texts and Vodafones stop the clock - any off peak & weekend call up to 60 minutes will cost just 3 minutes.
Glad I did TBH!

Never ever agree to anything except a new phone (of your choice) and at the most, a 12 month contract
THEY WILL ALL FOLD EVENTUALLY*
Seriously - just threaten to leave. You've seen the phone on Vodafone (or any other network), and it's free. Tell them you want your PAC code so you can move to that network. They'll try all sorts of offers - crap phones, £100 upgade prices, 18 month contracts, etc. Reject them all. Eventually after being passed around 18 departments someone will authorise your new phone.
* assuming you don't have a £5 month bill or something

If you've been with them for years, there's no need to blag, they should give you a free upgrade anyway. Just ask them for one.
Was with Vodafone for about 17 years and they wouldn't give me a free phone, they wanted £60 for an 'upgrade'. Orange gave me a free phone and a better deal but as with insurance companies it seems that customer loyalty is not a concept they understand.
and then vodafone charged me £15 to 'port' my number, shortly after all this they called me to see if if I might go back to them next year
upgrades on vodafone are based on your monthly tariff and usage. the more you spend the better the handset.
i blagged - and i mean seriously blagged a nokia 9300 out of them 4 weeks ago. their first offer was £80, they thought they could do better on the monday morning when the business team are in - but i told them that on monday i'd stick with my 3650. i told them that they needed to act here and now if they wanted 1 more contracted year out of me.
price became £23.
wandered into a vodafone shop that was holding it for me, who then gave me the phone for free after assessing the account themselves.
Nokia 9300 for Free - i was well pleased. The bonus is that its a superb phone as well.
TIP: if you are a vodafone business user and want an upgrade speak to a vodafone shop first. they can do the upgrade and quote lower prices than the business teams can.

I upgrade free with Orange every year. As long as you spend £30+ per month they should give you a £100 phone or cheaper for free.
Phone 150, ignore the upgrade queue and go straight to disconnections. Generally speaking they are a LOVELY bunch and will be helpful.
If you're polite and friendly, and make them smile, expect a little more.
I phoned up 2 weeks ago, got the Orange SPV M500 for free, and cos I was nice the lady chucked in a bluetooth headset also.
If you don't ask, you don't get...
