Mk3 Leon Cupra - better buy than a Mk7 GTI?

I've toyed with the idea of replacing my Mk5 GTI with a Mk7 in recent years but never went ahead with it. But I think the time has come to get something more modern and I'd like to get back into a manual as I don't do much commuting anymore.
For the price of a Mk7 performance pack you can get a Mk3 Cupra and they've really grown on me especially since the wife has one (albeit a boggo standard 1.4). I'm assuming they suffer with the usual EA888 issues? Is there anything I need to look out for that is specific to the Leons? They offered as 'Sub 8' pack but there doesn't seem to be any for sale - is it worth holding out for these?
I should add that I used to run a Mk1 Cupra R 225, and it was a great blast!

They will suffer the same EA888 issues as the R, but they're arent that many.
There are 2 versions of the Sub 8. The black edition has the sub 8 wheels and the bucket seats, the real sub 8 had brembos and a couple of other things. Personally I'd be looking for one with the bucket seats as they're much more comfortable.
All versions have the DCC (adaptive suspension and LSD) which GTi doesn't.
I had a 290 black edition DSG for a couple of years and it was probably the best car I have owned.
I had a mk3 cupra as a daily and it was great.
Felt so light and quick compared to the hybrid monstrosity that has replaced it.
Although the new Leon is miles ahead of the old one in terms of interior materials, build quality and toys. I suspect the more upmarket cupra brand is responsible for this
