what do those that know advise in terms of prep for the underside before refitting with the original liners?

i know some pack out the lip entirely but that means cutting the liner to suit. im wondering if i can get away with some POR15 type treatment

im about to replace my original wings for some secondhand non rusty original bmw ones but they are secondhand and no doubt will rust at some point but id like to do what i can to minimise the rot setting in early

Dinitrol option

- rub back
- dinitrol rc900
- clean and let dry
- dinitrol rc900
- refit liner

POR15 option

- 3 step ( POR15 method using the silver/grey colour)
https://www.frost.co.uk/por15-rust-paint-treatment...
- refit liner

Clean off any surface rust and brush some grease in there, plus a bit more when the liner is refitted. I put a couple of secondhand wings on a 330i estate ten years ago and they're still fine. The rest of the car is decomposing nicely however.

If there is any rust, loose paint, remove. Then slater with Dinitrol/Waxyol?

Original an un-rusty sounds like hens teeth!

Replaced mine 6 years ago, and they are all good except the very front corner by the indicator, paint, waxyol.

spoken to a super helpful company called frost who specialise in all this stuff
in essence they suggested rub down with red scotchbrite, POR15 3 step system, overcoat with dinitrol
yes its overkill but for the sake of 60 quids im not fussed and if it delays the need to buy more wings for another 6 years or so then happy days

ive agonised over this decision as i was going down the new bmw wing and front end respray route which was going to cost mucho dinero

this way im all done for about 260 but lets see what the paint match is like. same year same colour so lets see. i dont expect theyre entirely rust free but with the above id like to think im buying some time

will report back if anyone is interested

I personally don't rate Por15 as it's very fussy for degreasing and struggles to stick to bright steel.

But certainly the Rolls-Royce would be a good paint and then dinatrol.
