Am I the only one who thinks there is a bit of a conflict with the window positions on the pic with blue chairs vs the external and other views?

didn't they try using big windows in the Comet? As i recall that had some rather fatal results. Nice looking concept interiors though, i suspect however come reality, it will still be a sardine can!

yeah I noticed that, that entire pic looks a bit drug induced actually

As for the comet if its the one I'm thinking of the problme was that the windows were square and not rounded which caused metal fatigue with disasterous results.

Comet had square window frames -> stress fractures at the corners (no surprises).

The Comet was designed in 1945-49. Window structure technology has moved on very considerably in the intervening half century since then.

Squarish windows are not a problem provided that they are radiused correctly in the corners and the corners are adequately strengthened. That was the Comet 1s major weakness.

The vast majority of jet airliners built since the Comet accidents actually have had square (ish) windows.

As a point of correctness, there never was any conclusive proof that the two Comets which were definitely lost due to explosive cabin depressurisation really was due to a window failure. Not enough wreckage was recovered to point one way or the other. However, the Comet for which most wreckage WAS recoverd was G-ALYP which crashed off Elba. The point of failure seemed to be, not a window, but an aperture in the roof under which the radio direction finding aerial was located.

The window notion comes from the fact that the Comet which was tested to destruction in the water tank at Farnborough (G-ALYU) did suffer a cabin failure in the corner of a window.

Look at the pictures of the interior and imagine it with twice as many seats, then you will get a feel for how it will really look.

It is true that the manufacturer's mock up of the passenger cabins bears little relationship to how the airlines will want the cabins actually configured.

The real advancements in a design like the 787 will be in the operational economics.
