Unsure how much this will be updated, but having created another topic investigating what I could purchase here, I thought I would pop this one in too to document how I get on with this contraption:

Specification:

2019 Toyota Hilux "Invincible" in Decuma Grey
1 owner
78000 miles
Full service history
Manual
BF Goodrich KO2 Tyres
Truckman Top
Optional equipment added at new:
'Professional Design' full leather
'Go Navigation'
Tow bar

Or that's all that I can find from the brochure

Collected it on Friday and have had a weekend of skip runs and the like so far and probably done about 300 miles.

First impressions:
It's definitely not fast!
Better turning circle than the wife's V90CC
Daughter (4yo) loves it
Just under 30mpg running around the local B-roads

Things to do:
Full service, will hopefully just do this myself
Get seat covers - will be a work van, so would like to protect the interior to some degree - any suggestions welcome.
A/C seems a little feeble, may need gas
Will need to get a phone holder, as my current Leon and the Volvo just allow you to plug into the infotainment system, whereas this does not. For use of Apple/Google Maps I will have to go back in time and get a holder to get my phone on the dashboard/windscreen - again, any suggestions welcome.

And home:

Love a pickup, don't need one and can't justify one unfortunately. Probably not sensible as a family car in my circumstances but interested to read of your experiences with yours.

Would it be the 3 litre engine you have?

I’m after another myself, preferably LHD. A three door with the four seats would be perfect.

Good luck with it.

These have a 2.4 and the newest ones are now 2.8 I believe. I’m certain that there are faster pickups out there, but it’s not really the point I guess.

A week in and my current findings.

Truck hasn't been used much as I still have a Leon for running back and forth to my current office job that wraps up in October. This will be going for sale shortly, so the truck will be pressed into daily action at some point for the 80 mile a day commute.

It was utilised for it's purpose the first day back:

However, there is quite a lot of the same to move:

so an Ifor Williams will be getting purchased shortly.

With the purchase of the Hilux, my long suffering wife is hoping for less of this type of activity with her car:

Points so far:
Part worn AT tyres provide no grip on damp roads. I was aware of this to some degree, but this is the first car I've owned with these tyres on, so I've been learning as I go along.

Need to find my 12v USB adaptor, as the USB connection to the infotainment does not support charging of devices. I think it is meant for plugging in a thumb drive or similar for media and phones just have to connect via bluetooth. No real problem, but no idea where my charger has gone since I removed it from my old caddy van a couple of years ago.

Rear-facing 360 child seat fits fine in the back, with the seat in front on it's last but one notch, so that is very surprising and a big bonus.

Having worked in various places around the world for my entire career, this is my first Toyota and it comes free with the same engine noise as the numerous HiAce vans that I've spend thousands of kilometres being ferried about in over the years:

Most recent adventure in one...

No matter the condition of them, they always seem to sound the same and now I've brought that home. They all still seems to work to some degree no matter how disheveled they appear, so that's got to be a good thing.

Living out amongst farms, there seems to be an even split of DMax and Hilux that are being used as works vehicles so I assume that they are also held in high regard closer to home. Daughter (4) very much loves it and the wife is enjoying using it too, surprised that she found herself running along at an indicated 70 without even really realising.

Personally, I'm much more interested in seeing how a practical vehicle gets used than reading a thread on a supercar.
How are these for rust resistance?

Nice truck.

Turtle covers are decent in terms of seat covers. They aren't too thick so retain the seat comfort. I prefer them to the OEM Mitsubishi ones in my truck which are far too thick and make you feel perched on top of the seat.

What tyres are on it? My experience with General Grabber AT tyres of various different models have been really positive and grip doesn't drop off noticeably as they wear.

Hopefully this one will be getting used as Toyota intended. I'm hoping that they are reasonable for rust, I know it's something to look out for on the older ones. I may dinitrol or similar the underside.

I've had a look on their website and it seems that they are more or less the type of thing that I am looking for, cheers. I will order up a set.

BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2. It was in greasy conditions, so I'm not overly concerned, but before winter I will try and get a new set on.

Interesting on the tyres. I never got on with General Grabber and love KO2s. I do tend to keep my truck in 4x4 in the wet and always when towing though.

What with the warm weather upon us, even in NE Scotland, the lack of air conditioning was a bit of a pain. Step forward Halfords:

Quick check of the current output:

LP side living up to it's name:

Should be OK at that:

Much better:

Hopefully all that new gas will stay in there now.

I really should have weighed the cylinder to see how much went in, but the wife was already getting annoyed at the amount of kitchen implements I had borrowed for the garage.

Service will be the next thing to do, hopefully get everything ordered up this week.

About 1000 miles into Hilux ownership now and things are going well - touch wood.

Has mainly been used for light duties until this point, but I collected a new trailer on Friday to allow it to start earning its keep.

Having been looking for a couple of months for a trailer, I've become slightly obsessed and the Ifor Williams brochures are now as well thumbed as the Husqvarna and Stihl catalogues are.

Trailer is an Ifor Williams LM126G, for the uninitiated that's a 12'x6' version of their flatbed trailer. This one came with the cage sides, which will be handy for my intended use.

On the 100 mile drive home it pulled well and the Hilux was unfazed. When empty, on a reasonably steady cruise, fuel consumption increased by about 2mpg. I'd imagine that she's fairly noisy for anyone outside with the cages and sides rattling about though.

Over the weekend she was pressed into proper service:

Not sure on the weight, but I'd imagine over a tonne. Used the 'PWR Mode' as there was a lot of steep hills to get to the point where the wood was being removed from and the truck was quite happy dragging it about.

All the consumables for the service have turned up, a mixture of buying from Toyota for the filters and Rough Trax for the fluids. So that will be on the cards for this week at some point. Will report back on how that goes.

Life is currently good with the Hilux.

Yes, it was much required during a recent run over to the west coast, and although they should have been dying out by this time of the year, they were very much still in attendance. Luckily the ability to cool the car down without opening the windows reduces interaction with them.

With my 21 year old 200,000 mile hilux I towed my track car to the Uk last week. 1200 mile round trip. Great workhorse of a truck.

Great stuff. The durability of the Hilux is what attracted me to them and I'm hoping that I will put as many trouble free miles on mine as you have on your one.

I really do like your shape Hilux, and this looks a good example.

Have to use them at work a fair bit (around Scottish Estates) and they never seem to get in any trouble off road. We did have an issue with the DPF on one which was full, but I suspect thats because it had been doing 20mph around estate tracks for a few weeks without any big journeys.
