F10 M5

Hi,

I'm looking at my next car options - 2014 - 2016 F10 M5 - and have noticed that some seats are smooth leather, and some are fluted/stiched down the leather panels. Is this a model year change, optional extra or otherwise?

Definitely more importantly, I think I have heard that there was an engine reworking around this time which may have positively affected shell bearing wear? I may have this wrong, but i'd like to avoid certain model years that have known issues.

They are all merino leather but the difference you may be seeing is between the M multifunction (optional) and standard front seats.

No difference in rod bearings that I'm aware of. I changed my 2015 car's bearings last year at ~150k miles as a purely preventative maintenance measure and the old ones were fine. Consensus seems to be that mapped cars fare worse but then mine was mapped for 70k miles early in its life as well....

The M Sport seats are amazing in my opinion - best seats I've had. If I was buying again they would be an essential for me.

So the engine spec stayed the same throughought the F10 production? Was the Compeittion Pack offered throughout also?

I remember when I ordered my new M5 F10 in 2012 and I went for Full Merino Leather which gave me front seats with the vertical stitched panels up the backrest and on the seat cushion. The standard seats, at that time, I think might have been Dakota leather which wasn't as soft and was the bigger, more square panels on the backrest and seat cushion. The Full Merino Leather option also added leather dashboard and door cappings. It was a nice upgrade to have.

Yes, i'm certainly steering in that direction.
With a budget of around £25k, i guess i'm sort of middle market. It will need to be low miles (under 50k) and have FSH.

At my budget, i appreciate that Competition Pack cars are out of reach, and 2016 examples will be a stretch target - any thoughts?

Sport seats are the standard seats. Comfort seats have the veritcal stitching and more control. I have the sports seats and they are fine for me.

The competition pack became available on the facelift cars which was from around October 2013.

The competition pack upped the power from 560 bhp to 575, lowered and stiffened the suspension slightly, had a different style of 20" wheels and black exhaust tips. There might have been minor changes to the steering as well but I'm not sure on that.

There's a nicely specced 66 plate competition pack car on the BMW website up for £28,450. I know that's a bit above your budget and it's also on 72k miles, but it looks a nice car and it's been on there for ages, they might be keen to do a deal.

I’m also very close to pulling the trigger on one of these and in pretty much the same price bracket as you, (but if a tidy 2008-2010 E60 M5 in the right spec came up that may sway me )

the Comfort seats have the larger headrests eh? And the standard sports look more basic(?) but still look decent enough?

If you can stretch to an LCI facelift car then do so, I would love a Comp pack, but I’ll settle for an LCI car in the right colour/spec/mileage - still plenty fast enough! There’s currently three for sale in my town but all are 2011-2012 cars and grey or white! I’ve got a grey car currently and ideally want Blue, Black or Red

The multi function M seats really change up the interior the standard sports seats are the same as the ones you'll find in a 520d M sport.

I always thought Merino was an option, now I can see that actually it's some of the colours that were!

I'll be putting my 2014 (LCI) up in a couple of weeks. I've got a little Euro trip planned but expect 47-48k when I get back. FSH and Fully transferable BMW comprehensive warranty. Car has been flawless for two years!

Oh and it has Merino leather
