Our Nige the Arnage... plus others
Discussion
Haven't posted for ages so thought I would start again with the newish daily, a 2006 Arnage Mulliner; man maths says that 6000 miles per year is +/-500 gallons =£3500. If I used the boxster at 24 to the gallon it would cost me £1750pa, so the difference is only £30ish pounds per week£30 per week to drive a bentley sounds like a bargain. Against that if I put the same cash into a three year old merc/bmw I will lose £10,000 in 2 years.
So the financially responsible thing to do is buy an Arnage sight unseen off the internet, pay up front and get it delivered on the basis of its shiny I want it now. It is a nice day when your new to you Bentley with 52,000 miles in triple black shows up, made even more delightful when wife peers at it "yuk looks like a bloody funeral car, I hope you don't expect me to drive it"
The first few days living with it were fun, so many buttons to play with, so much 20 year old tech to try and remember, there is always a background feeling akin to driving around holding a grenade with the pin out; eventually something will go bang, it will hurt and it will be expensive.
Tragically my son has a grandmother who belongs to extinction rebellion, she had offered him a treat so my cunning plan was, she hates plastic, lets suggest lego land, better yet she didn't know I had the Bentley so when I picked her up the contrast between my rather nice quilted leather and her rather quilted skin and clothing was remarkable...or should I describe her as "rouched"
Any way so far only real fault has been a broken accesory belt and the rear parking sensors failing to proceed, I have delivered various people to skool proms, weddings, funerals etc as a favour..a pint per every 10 miles.
Meanwhile the 160,000 mile T reg boxster goes remorselessly onwards, it belongs to a client based in Hong Kong who uses it maybe three days per year. its scruffy as hell, has a carlos fandango works exhaust on it and a fake boxster S badge on the boot. The sports seats with the hard rear shell are in a caramel leather and despite regular soaking in all sorts of hide stuff are about 50% crack 50% leather.
Normally its parked indoors but after I wash it or if it sits in the rain I can hear water sloshing about behind the rear firewall for a day or two, maybe a blocked drain, local garage are having a look next week. On the subject of which, when I ring and ask for oils and filter change plus air filter change they say "oh you mean a minor service".....no oil and filter change and air filter please.
There is also the 2011 self parking golf diseasil that is faultless at 125,000 miles
Sometime I will suss out how to add images

It looks like the Arnage has to go for the following reasons
1) wife hates it refuses to drive it and sighs every time I put fuel in it
2) I have an eight year old with a bright future in demolition, it breaks my heart every time there is low level damage to trim/interior each episode in itself is minor but will eventually add up to it being a scruffy old dog
3) scruffy old dog: I am due to inherit my stepdaughters dog as her husband hates dogs and is unpleasant to it. Personally I would replace the husband but like all the women in that family they will never admit they have made the wrong decision. I don't want the dog in my car as I use it as my daily
4) I've done 10,000 miles in the last year, now on 62,000 miles
5) wife wants me to get a "sensible estate car"
Choices
E63 estate
V10 M5 estate
budget is circa the £25,000 ive been offered for the bentley, there is an E63 for sale in mayfair for £25ish...97000 miles 2007
I'm thrilled the bentley will only have done £500 in depreciation assuming I accept the offer I have on it
Which to get and which on is least fragile

Didn't mention £3000 in bills this year in case wife reads this...........ooops
I'm also looking for a renault twizzy as a sort of tender to the main car
But before it goes, you must try to fathom a way to upload images .... let's see this triple black machine before it parts for newer pastures....I'm also looking for a renault twizzy as a sort of tender to the main car

Thread is not delivering.
I've often contemplated doing exactly the same so I doff my cap to the OP for having the balls to actually do it.
E61 M5 is an epic car, but needs a pot of cash behind it
I ran one for nearly 2 years - thankfully had the BMW warranty - which paid out £11k on repairs.
But if you can live with 13-15 MPG around the doors and 25 max on a run they're brilliant.
At the time couldn't afford to run one main car. Wouldn't have sold it on today. Is a miss.

ITS actually a 2006 model mulliner...it had a publicans number on it at some stage in its life and for some reason they put this 05 number on it.
