m50d tyres

Just wondering if any owners can recommend some tyres they have maybe run on their m50d, I’ve agreed a deal on an x5 and would like to replace the tyres for some non run flats unless someone can tell me if I must have run flats on these cars…

No, you DON'T need RFTs on the car and you go with what tyres you feel suit you best...

This is PH; so premium tyres are always going to be voted highly for...

FWIW my Dad had Dunlop Sport whatevertheywere non RFTs on his X3M; he hated them, poor traction in wet & dry. Went over to Michelin PS4s and felt they were great, but got loud/droned mid their lifecycle (my Dad's deef as a post)!

He moved to Conti's and never looked back...

I have eagle f1 on my current car so was looking into those again so good to hear run flats aren’t necessary

I run the Assym6s on my F31, non RFTs and find them to be superb TBH

Glad I went for them over the PS5s in all honesty...

If you rate them currently; stick with them

Another potential issue, are these engines known for any air con related issues? In the paperwork I’ve seen the current owner had the air con cleansed and sanitised twice in one year, one time it went in for noisy air con fan and they found leaves near air intake so wonder if that might cause a funny smell which made them clean it twice?

The air con cleaner treatment is done at major services, and only ‘air-side’ and not refrigerant side.

Interesting, any reason why it would be done twice in one year? 03/21 & 11/21? Not like it’s expensive, just seems odd to me

It could have been upsold on one or both occasions, despite not been needed. Sadly some people believe what the service advisor tells them. It could also be that the previous owners never used the air con and there was a smell due to bacteria buildup. It's really hard to tell, although I don't think it's anything to be overly concerned about.

Good point about the bacteria build up, I wondered if when they found leaves near air intake if them rotting down could cause a funny smell meaning they thought it was an air con issue.
