Justseen that vid too.
Its the electric torque and traction that wins for the Mcmurtry and Rimac. They are hugely imoressive vehicles. Saw the mcmurtry goijng up goodwood and that was just other worldly.
Would be interesting to compare the RB8 time around a track with the Mcmurtry. Could be close or faster somewhere like Hungary

A world of volts and fans with no arbitrary regulations to limit performance, versus F1 which is constantly being held back to keep speeds within a certain range.Well one of these cars is two wheel drive, and has no traction control except for the driver’s right foot, which even with a good driver is difficult to overcome the lack of traction from these cold ‘display’ tyres they’re forced to use.
They did choose the right distance though, which is often another factor in these challenges. Watching an 8.something event cut around to be 30s long is annoying!
Edit: I would like to see the McMurtry do some demo laps, as the 919 EVO did a few years back. It was a shame they didn’t do an attack lap at Silverstone, I suspect it’s not much slower than the F1 car. At a tight and twisty track like Hungaroring, it’s probably right up there if someone has the guts to do it. Come on McMurtry, chase some outright lap records!

Modern F1 cars are lighter than the McMurtry, make as much power, make more downforce at 2000kg Vs 2500kg+ and can pull 5g cornering Vs 2.8g for the Spierling.

They did a few laps of the national circuit and did not post a lap time, if they would have broken the lap record (McLaren P1?) they would have mentioned it I'm sure.
That's the point isn't it ? I recently heard Messrs Frankel and Prosser getting very moist about Andy Wallace 300 and something mph run in the Bugatti Chiron- amazing achievement , such nerves etc . Teams of technicians , private circuit, miles run up , special tyres yadda yadda. I bow to nobody in my admiration of Wallace's other achievements but I did email Dan to remind him that I've seen Anita Makela achieve a higher speed - but in under 4 seconds from a standing start, over 1000 feet and while competing with someone in the next lane....

The electric vehicles are hugely impressive in a straight line but every time I see an electric car driver sat at a charging point, it reminds me that my Porsche is a far more enjoyable place to be, even if their electric Tesla could beat me in a straight line. I can fill up with super unleaded and complete the NC500 on a tank and a bit. Electric cars are fine for commuters, just not driving enthusiasts, at least not this one.

We're supposed to be car fans on PH. The video I posted showed that at launch and down to what would be T1 on most circuits, you can actually now buy a road car that would be ahead. How is that not a bit of a 'moment' in the evolution of the road car?
As for lap times, I suppose we have to wait and see. Both of the electric cars will soon start to ship so they will also soon find themselves borrowed and taken to a few circuits to see how quick they really are. Personally, I think there might be a surprise in store - especially with the McMurtry.

My best friend, who is sadly no longer with us, started a series some years ago: Ten of the Best (www.totb.co.uk), which still showcases road legal cars with incredibly mind-blowing performances over drag, top speed and handling courses. None would come close to an F1 car round a lap, but that is not the point. And I am not sure they would ever allow linear-accelerating EVs, but the co-founders would be impressed i would think.
Autocar tested the Tesla Plaid last week and even my normal blase self was blown away by the acceleration. We are used to extraordinary performance in EVS but , given that Max or Lewis typically take about 5.5 seconds to hit 124 mph from the start . the 2 tonne , 4seat Tesla 's 120mph in 6 seconds was amazing ..
I love the McMurtry - I have not seen it run live , but I saw the car on display at Silverstone . I don't like big cars , and the McMurtry is tiny , but it also looks like something you'd find attached under the wing of a stealth bomber ...

I saw the video over the weekend and it's astonishing and scary. Obviously I had thoughts of old F1, not warm tyres, dirty track etc. but the fact is those other cars also have to deal with that.
It's scary that a normal human (with money) can buy something that most people wouldn't be able to handle (although guns, I digress) but the way cars have evolved is crazy.
Makes me wonder what next steps are too? How much faster can they get? Does F1 do something to make the gap bigger again?
I also think the McMurty would probably put in an astonishingly quick lap on a GP circuit. As always people talking about range but initially at least, I don't think that's the point.
