570s vibration - is this normal?
Discussion
Hi guys.
Recently collected a new to me 570s and familiarising myself with the characteristics of the car
I am experiencing a considerable vibration through the floor when stopped at a light in gear or driving in traffic at low speeds/low rpm, to the extent that often I see the rear view mirror shaking. Feels like it is coming from the transmission. Is this normal for these cars?
Another thing, is constantly when driving I am also hearing what I can only describe as a high pitched hissing noise in the cabin, at first I thought it was related to the stereo but persists even when that is muted. It does grate a bit on a longer motorway journey. Is this a characteristic of the car?
Would really appreciate any feedback from other owners. Thanks for reading.

The vibration as you describe it sounds excessive to me, I would get it checked out. I'd say the engines sound a bit coarse, but I've not noticed vibrations to the extent you describe either in the 570S I hired or the 570GT I now have.
Incidentally the actual transmission is right at the back behind the engine between the rear wheels, did you mean the vibration came from there, or from the centre console between the seats where the D/N/R buttons are?

Vibration, no. High-pitched hissing, yes, based on my 720S which probably has the same hydraulic (I think) pump just the other side of the front firewall that’s on for much of the time. If it’s on nonstop the dealer told me that’s bad but most of the time OK.
Yeah, it's the electric pump for the hydraulic power steering (and nose lift, and fluid suspension on super series cars like the 720).On my 570GT this was very noticeable at around 30-40mph, but not really at motorway cruise. I understand that the steering assistance is speed variable, so it's noticeable at those lower speeds but not at 70-80.
V Engineering stuck some extra soundproofing to the outside of my firewall which reduced the noise from fairly noticeable and somewhat annoying, to a background thing which isn't really an issue. They can also fit an improved acoustic insulation jacket around the pump itself (from a GT) if you really want to silence it.
Definitely not right to have excessive vibrations through the floor.
It is normal to have a high pitch whine from the power steering pump. Does it go away when the car is completely stationary, and start again when you either turn the wheel (while stationary), or move off again? If so - normal.

I definitely have a much harsher vibration that arrives when idling once the car is hot, ie stuck in traffic. Clears after a short run at higher revs / speed.
Other 600 owners have observed the same, but strange that not everyone seems to have it. If you do get someone like V to have a look and they diagnose anything, let us know!

Ditto here with my 600LT. Seems to happen when warm in slow or stop/start traffic. Engine seems to run a little lumpy and centre mirror vibrates. As soon as the car gets going again it smooths out.Other 600 owners have observed the same, but strange that not everyone seems to have it. Thanks all for the responses. Car was recently purchased approved used from a Mcdealer.
Mileage is low 20s so I guess quite high for the type of car - perhaps engine mounts are due for replacement?
Re vibration hard to pinpoint exactly where its coming from but feels like from the engine or transmission into the floorpan and the seats, which makes low speed driving a slightly unpleasant experience.
I am going to drive it a bit more, try toggling track mode, AC on/off to see if it is purely RPM related and if I can mitigate it a bit and see what the dealer says.

Definitely doesn't sound normal.
They do tend to have fairly lumpy idle when in neutral - but since you say it's happening at low speed, it's not that. My previous car had ~25k on it when it died, and that had no excessive vibration at all.
Definitely sounds like something needs fixing.

Update after another drive and test -
There is a considerable vibration through the seats when stationary in either neutral or drive (so my initial assertion that only happens in D was incorrect - my poor memory) still feel it at a low speed on the move in traffic though.
AC/track makes no discernible difference
I am guessing then this is more normal if infact engine vibration rather than gearbox?
High pitched noise is constant when the engine is on, almost sounds like a static whine from a poor stereo ground (not stereo related though as far as I can tell as muted)

Not normal.
They can be prone to spark plug recesses filling with water and corroding = loosing 1 or more cylinders at idle, cylinder sometimes comes back in with a whiff of throttle.
Not saying that's it - just another possibility, but dont accept as it is ...... problems just get more expensive for later.

Picked up my 600LT Christmas eve and noticed the same, a significant rumble/low frequency vibration at low speed. Almost like a shaft is bent but completely disappears after about 20mph. It recently had a service/warranty inspection at McLaren and they didn't pick up anything. I don't know if it's expected due to the stiffer engine mounts of the 600LT or something else that needs looking at.
