Charlotte Owen, 30 years old, a former aide to Boris Johnson, has taken her seat as the youngest ever life peer in the House of Lords. Considering the average age of the House of Lords is 71, Baroness Owen will bring down that age considerably. Will this bring a fresh young perspective to the House of Lords?

Some might say the House of Lords lacks diversity so this appointment may be a good thing?

Younger people doesn’t mean you have to completely relax the other acceptance criteria though does it.

What skills/capabilities/experience will she bring to the HoL?

This is a prime example of why the process for appointing to the HoL needs reform.

I thought we had done away with the idea of people ending up in the Lords by accident of birth?

She must have exceptional skills at something - but it would be slanderous to suggest what & with whom.....

There's also a 31 year old bloke been made a Lord.

But because it's Johnson all the attention is on Owen.

He really does drag down every single person he comes into contact with.

What skills/capabilities/experience do the rest of them bring to the HoL?

That's not how averages work;

Average before = 71 (781 members)

Average with Ms Owen = 70.9 (782 members)

I think the average age in HoL will go down. A lot of them will be being have heart attacks after seeing "their niece".

We have too many in the HoL already- how about we put a hold on new ones for a few years?

David Lammy was discussing Owen's appointment on LBC and said he was not aware of any "super injunction". Presumably as a presenter on a large radio station he would have been aware if one existed?

Not sure there is one in place, but to all those mocking her appointment it’s worth pointing out that she has a degree in politics and international studies. Whatever his reasons, Johnson has set this country back, laughing stock.

What experience does she have of anything outside her little bubble?
