Hi all,

We’re about to move overseas for a bit. We can’t buy a left hand drive second hand vehicle there, so are thinking about importing one. We plan some big road trips so need a large(ish) reliable car.

We’ve found a UK plated Skoda Octavia 2013 2.0 TDI Laurin & Klement 4x4 DSG with 112,000 on the clock. The asking price is £7995. It’s had one owner from new, has a full Skoda service history and has an in-date MOT.

Does anybody have any experience with these (esp the 4x4 variants) with higher mileages. Other than the cambelt, is there anything else we should be looking for?

Grateful for any advice.

Cheers in advance.

Sounds like a good example and perfect for your needs. 112K isn’t particularly high for a 2.0tdi so I expect with regular maintenance you should be able to take it well past 200K with ease if you end up hanging on to it. It would be good to see some proof of DSG gearbox & Haldex oil changes, so ask about that. If the car has a full Skoda service history then I would hope they will have followed the servicing guidelines and it will be noted in the service book somewhere. DSG oil change is every 40K and the 4x4 oil change is every 30K according to a service doc I have saved from when I had an Octavia Scout.

Cant comment on the gearbox or 4x4 bit, but the engines are good for lots of miles more. Mine was written off at 186k and was running perfectly. Past 100k they should have the oil changed every 10k IMO, but may still be done on long life service intervals. An oil change costs £20 if done yourself and will protect the turbo at higher mileages.

Wheel bearings seem a bit of weak point, don't be surprised if they only last 50/60k.

Cam belt is every 70,000 miles or 5 years. From memory its about £400.
