640d GC water leak

thought I'd share......hope it proves useful / helpful. I recently had the well known 'water feature' in the rear passenger footwell issue which affects F series 5s and 6s. I've seen several threads and Youtube videos explaining about leaves and other debris blocking the drain holes near the windscreen wipers.... and how to resolve the problem.

Before going through the rigmarole of trying the 'conventional' solution I thought I'd have a go at using a domestic sink / pipe cleaning fluid to see if it would clear the blockage; the cause of the blockage was foliage from some big conifers in my garden. I used a gel rather than a liquid to try and make sure the cleaner went through any residual water in the drain tubes and to the cause of the blockage. The other benefit of using gel was it less likely to leak into the cabin. It worked a treat..............only took a couple minutes and has been bone dry ever since including the past week where we've had some very heavy downpours. Took a couple of hours everything out though. The cleaner I used was called Mr Muscle Drain Gel. https://www.mrmuscleclean.com/en-gb/products/drain...

Look up the “yellow grommet” mod as well. There are a few videos around showing how to do it. I did it on mine a few months ago. In short, it needs a panel removing and replacing in the engine bay with some holes drilling through it. Well worth doing.
