Chimaera/Griffith exhaust differences?
Discussion
Hello all,
Just a quick question about exhausts- I'm on the look out for a standard exhaust for my Chimaera (finally after a couple of years I've decided that the sleeved exhaust is a little too noisy). Found one that fits the bill but its off a Griff- Are Chim/Griff exhausts the same? they do look very similar.
Cheers,
Alex

How is yours currently sleeved ? Box opened and straight pipes welded in ? Cherry bombs put in ? ACT system ? etc etc
Curious as I'm trying to decide if I want to go louder than the standard set up I have.
Half sleeved is niceCurious as I'm trying to decide if I want to go louder than the standard set up I have.
Full sleeve is ok
Decat with a cone and half sleeve decent
Full decat and sleeved is horrendous, probably one of the worst sounding cars I have ever heard.
Mine is very much traditional sleeve- silencer cut open and two lengths of exhaust pipe welded in.
When I first did it I loved it and I've had it for a couple of years now, when you floor it it really roars with plenty of pops and crackles on the overrun. The idle sound isn't great more of a series of splutters rather than a burble, and long distances on a motorways are tolerable (not as bad a some would have you believe) but not pleasant.

Ah ok got ya. Cheers for that, appreciate the honesty !When I first did it I loved it and I've had it for a couple of years now, when you floor it it really roars with plenty of pops and crackles on the overrun. I haven’t modified at all, so not an experienced ear for variety; the original, still cat’d exhaust has a lovely burble, and roars to the point of a smile, then laughter when accelerating under a bridge.
Do explore, but enjoy.
I live where there are a few Ferraris, one or two Lambos, a couple of Bentley Continental GTs, an old Mustang (too loud), and a handful of Ford ST type things from around the corner. But balls to that.
We really do have one of the best sounding cars out there.

If it helps, my old 400 had the pre cats out, a Clive f de cat and was sleeved. It sounded ace when booting it and I liked the nasty idle sound (like an old muscle car) but it was pretty antisocial and long journeys weren’t good, I resorted to ear plugs through France one year.
I’ve settled on a standard set up with a full sleeve for my 500 now. Sounds very good and long journeys are no problem.
