Word is that de Vries is sacked with immediate effect, Ricciardo in to replace him and will race in Hungary next week…

Not sure what AphaTauri are up to this season... they seem to be lacking more than a driver.

It's a benchmarking thing. If Ricciardo is still fast he'll go to RB next year. If not then Yuki will. Either way there will be a seat at AT for Lawson in 2024.

I can see something in the Ricciardo suggestion, if he gets the best out of that pig of an AT then I can see him at RB next season. If not then I'm not sure Yuki has shown enough to replace Perez just yet...

Yep for sure, the car is pretty rubbish.

From Marko's comments earlier in the year I suspect the next car will just be an RB-lite.

Will certainly be an interesting test for Ricciardo - Yuki will be very used to the car so shouldn't be easy to beat.

Shocking......

Both De Vries performance so far this and also Helmut's ruthless behaviour!!!

For Ricciardo, if he's back, he's going to have to thrash Tsunoda. If he doesn't he's finished for good...... He might be better waiting for Perez to shuffle off and let Lawson have a go...

Will Lawson want to get a title though..... currently 2nd in Super formula. Again, if he goes to AT he's going to be in a pig of a car, wouldn't you wait for the next season and hope the cars better???

My F1 app says it is breaking news.

Just another reason to dislike the Red Bull stable.

You can't get more official than the team themselves announcing it...

Ricciardo is in. He must have impressed RB in the tyre test he's doing this week. If he completes the season without any fkups then he's got to be favourite to replace Perez next year, with Lawson then coming in to AT.

Helmut is ruthless for sure, but for me not in this decision. His public airing of comments about DeVries all season has been unsavory. He’s undermined him the whole way.

However…. He simply isn’t good enough for an F1 seat. Plain and simple.

Helmut is a helmet… but this is the right call.

Looks like what they've seen in the sim has translated onto the track

extremely unfair in my opinion, the car is a dog and Tsunoda has hardly been setting the world on fire either. Marko has had it out for him since the season started and I'm not surprised to see him finally get his way. Once again the sink or swim brutality of the Red Bull driver programme has been laid bare for all to see.

Red Bull on rails. Then he gets in the AT and suddenly the steering wheel is connected to the rear wheels.

100% guarantee he's been doing sim work in both cars though. Imagine if Perez has another shocker of a quali in Hungary

I’m 50/50 as to whether I’m surprised about this or not.

Regardless, I think it pretty unfair on de Vries.

I wonder how much input his race engineers had in making this decision?

This is definitely what it's all about. Literally an hour or so before this announcement I posted on another thread questioning why, if he was gunning for a AT seat, he was at RB as a third driver, not at AT all along - testing their car with the new tyres..

My conclusion was that it's because he obviously actually wants the RB drive and they're up for it - in principle. Provided he can make some real progress at AT.

Anyway, this is likely the start of his final chance to get back into a top car. I hope he digs deep!

For input, I think it started and ended with whatever the one eyed monster thought was best..
