Blur last night
Discussion
Nice gig last night despite the venue (whinge on this at the end).
Support act "Sleaford mods" were good and made use of the Wembley sound system, Steve Davis on the decks had a couple of oldies going.
The Boys didn't disappoint, Damon on form, he just wanted to get in a crowd jump every heavy song. Of course Mr Daniels had his slot, that was good and I doubt you could ever do it live without him, although Im sure I saw them in the 90's at Wembley arena I don't think PD was on for that.
So many songs now they can't fit in so I'll be relinquishing them at work in the week. Bit of a Brussel sprout appeared in the Universal knowing that it could probably be the last time I see them live.
On the venue Wembley is a horrendous place for me, we was in the row 120 and viewing ok although far too away to see the whites of there eyes like at Hyde Park when we last went. It's not so much getting up there but getting back, they shifted us out towards Wembley Central that took an age to get to down the ever delightful Wembley high street, but I would imagine it was less crowded than Wembley stadium.

I was there yesterday. Managed to get a last minute Golden Circle ticket.
I was literally 5 feet away from Damon at one point. He was absolutely loving it as were the rest of the band. Did feel sorry for the people high up, i'm not sure why you'd even bother buying a ticket being that high.
Paul Weller was brilliant. I've never really liked him that much (The Clash were better) but he had an amazingly tight band.
Travelling was the usual Wembley nightmare.

I have never been into Paul Weller, probably better than what we had.
I was there Saturday and Sunday - Golden Circle tickets for Saturday, and lowest tier of seating (row 9) for Sunday. Absolutely LOVED it. I would honestly put that up with one (well, two) of the best gigs I've ever seen. It was more my daughters Damon Albarn obsession that made us go twice, but I was blown away by how good they were.
Very different experiences each day - Golden Circle was good and we started right near the front but leave an inch in front of you and someone will fill it, so gradually got further and further from the stage - but the sound and atmosphere was awesome down there. Sunday in the seats was great, and seeing the show from a different viewpoint was brilliant - Seeing the rest of the crowd going nuts really added to the experience. Thankfully being in row 9 it's almost like being in the standing area so the sound was still good - once experienced U2 at Wembley from the seats in the rafters and the sound was awful.
My wife came with us on the Saturday, not really bothered about going, but having seen it she was gutted she wasn't with us on the Sunday too.
So glad they did 'Under The Westway', one of my all time favourites, and the London Community Gospel Choir coming out for Tender gave me goosebumps, that was incredible.
Really enjoyed Sleaford Mods, wasn't sure what they'd be like and not really my taste in music, but they didn't disappoint (wife wasn't so impressed though). Jockstrap were pretty good, but I really can't be doing with that Self Esteem woman. Paul Weller is obviously good at what he does, but I just don't get the love for his music, it does nothing for me. Each to their own I suppose...
All in all, a cracking weekend, and would love to do it all again.
(As for getting out of the place, we booked someone's driveway just around the corner from the stadium and parked there, cost us £26 IIRC - The show finished at 10 on Sunday night and I was at home in Northampton by just after 11:30 - Saturday took a little longer to get out, but well worth using 'Just Park' for things like that)

My blurjo is well and truly back, it's like im 16 again, I am reminiscing by the hour, from my school days when everyone gave me pelters for liking them then all of the became bigger fans than me, through to the days when they went off piste and it got depressing through to 11 years ago at Hyde Park.
Really should had applied for the Radio 2 session next week as I can imagine being that close and intricate is almost the last straw for me as I've seen it all with them, but at my age I see these things now and see the effort to get there rather than back.

I applied for that Radio 2 show but alas got an email earlier saying I wasn’t successful - they have announced a live rendition of the new album on 25th July for which you can apply for tickets if you pre-order the album but I can’t make it to that….fourstardan said:

Yes seen this today...I actually stayed in a Premier Bin in Hammersmith right next to the Apollo and we saw Sean lock there, its a good venue. \Again, for 5 hours of travelling and costs for an hour of new music...my old man mind is winning so I'll just pre order the album.

New album has a nice rift to it. Damon's said he's in a "Melancholy" phase...defo that.
Goodbye Albert is nice, need to work out what it's about.
Narcissist just keeps getting to me emotionally certainly when you see the lyrics, it's been 10 years and I thought these guys were gone forever...thanks Boys.

TBOD album songs now make sense now after hearing about Damon over the weekend!Goodbye Albert is nice, need to work out what it's about.

Goodbye Albert!
I was a massive Blur fan back in the day, Modern Life is Rubbish, Park Life and The Great Escape are some of my favourite albums with no skipped tracks. After that I never really got into any of their subsequent albums, other than the songs that were released as singles.
Absolutely hated Think Tank and only ever listened to the first two tracks on The Magic Whip.
How does the new album rate, is it worth getting hold of?

I barely bothered with Think Tank, it was over for me then, magic whip I have never listened too. Absolutely hated Think Tank and only ever listened to the first two tracks on The Magic Whip.

Latest I think's got some nice tracks on it, I've not struggled to get back into it.
It's not got any diverse stuff though which I liked about Blur, 13 and Great Escape e.g. Ernold same.

Totally agree with you, I remember I downloaded it from Kazaa (naughty, naughty) back in the day and got as far as Crazy beat as the intro voice just made me feel sick. Just had a listen to this song on YouTube 20 years on and it is exactly the same.I would say Blur were over after The Great Escape, Blur and 13 had a couple of tracks on each album that I liked but they were ultimately poor. Depeche Mode are the other band I was massively into back in the day and again they lost it at a similar time (1997 Ultra was the last good album) and seem to be going through the motions releasing another album every five years or so that is rubbish.

Funny as I was going to quote Crazy beat was what did it. This was the era where Graham just had decided to come out of his shell, I do feel like through the last few months he has looked rather sheepish and I do wonder if the guys are back together to help Damon through this divorce both financially and so he don't relapse lol. A lot of the bands in the late 90's/2000's just went south, I went to see Travis last year and same story, Although depressing, David Gray I liked and listened too through break ups etc, never seen him again.
The verve, Manics, they've all showed up on the Spotify list when starting blur tracks and bring back so many memories.
Great podcast here with Damon and James Ford talking through TBOD
