...from a safe distance?

For me, I reckon a (small) asteroid or comet impact - hitting the ocean! Now that would be cool (on someone else's planet, of course).

Meanwhile, back on Earth . . .

I'm still pee'd off because I slept through the 1987 hurricane in London. We were living in a basement flat at the time and knew nothing about it until we woke up and found the electricity had gone off

We witnessed the Solar System's biggest catastrophe in centuries in 1994 when comet Schumacher-Levy 9 plumetted into Jupiter.

It released more energy on impact than all the atomic weapons on Earth by a factor of thousands. Good job there was a 500 million mile gap between us and the scene of the disaster.

"Disaster" is a very appropriate word for such an event. The word "disaster" literally neans "bad star" and "asteroid" means "star like". Both words make use of the Latin word "astra" which means, of course, "star".

I'd like to witness Tony Blair and Ken Livingstone being hit by a comet.

OTOH, that probably doesn't qualify as a disaster, more a sign of a benevolent God.

I would love to be in the thick of a hurricane. I think it would be exhilarating.

What about taking a flight around the eye wall of a hurricane? Now that would be cool.

Oh it is, I assure you, I just enjoyed being blown by hurricane Katrina yesterday.

It is not boring.
