Was that the one he almost won in the Arrows? I remember screaming at the TV in disbelief both as he blasted off and then later as his car failed.

If I wanted a Hill trophy I think it would have to be either that one or his awesome win at Suzuka in '94 in torrential conditions.

Wonder who the seller is? Surely Damon would want to keep it if he owns it or buy it back if he sold it? Maybe Walkinshaws estate sold it and Damon never owned it?

I doubt he’d want to remember that year at all not even the almost win in a crap car.

Drivers contacts usually stipulate that the team keeps the original trophy, while the driver gets a replica. This one will most likely be from the Arrows trophy cabinet, rather than from Damon.

This trophy would have been the property of the team and was acquired at an auction after they went bust.

Ownership of trophies has been contested in the past. Apparently most teams state in the driver contracts that they own any trophies. It is so commonplace that years ago Bernie did a deal so that the maker of the trophy would, if requested, produce a second identical trophy for the driver. The only drawback was that the driver had to pay for it.

Certainly the case in the RD era of McLaren. Prost famously chucked his ‘89 Monza winning trophy into the crowd which upset Dennis.
Prost doesn’t have any replicas of his podium trophies, just his 4 WDC’s ones!
