I am currently looking at portable Bluetooth speaker options for in the house/garden etc. what option do the PH gurus recommend, this area is an absolute minefield. Looking for a nice crisp sound and base but not rattling the thing.

Thanks

i have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marshall-Emberton-Portabl...

and love it, reviews say it's not great at high volume but I've never found it to be an issue

What is the sound like in general, I like the looks but was always unsure with the branding etc.

Thanks

I have one of these. I'm so pleased with it I've bought a couple more as gifts https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Anker-SoundCore...

Genuinely great sound, rock solid Bluetooth connection, great battery life (recharges via mini USB) and under 25 quid. Anker make a bunch of other good stuff AND have a slightly amusing name. I'd say you can't go wrong with one of these.

I have one very similar to this, really good sound AND you can link them up together.

It's a good all-rounder to be fair. I mostly use it for podcasts and it's very clear and crisp. Took it to the park the other day and it was loud enough and bassy enough. Slightly annoying in that it doesn't have any settings to turn bass, treble, etc up/down but for the money I'm impressed. The bottom end Bose and similar sounded very tinny in comparison

I have one similar to this already but cannot remember the name, the sound isn’t much cop and does distort on medium volume.

Edit: it’s called a Juiceblock

I bought the original JBL Charge about 10 years ago and it has been used regularly ever since - decent enough volume for BBQ duties for example. The sound isn't as good as my non-portable, non-bluetooth Sonos One I have in the kitchen but it's definitely been worth the money so I would suggest trying the latest version.

When looking for stuff like this I usually head to John Lewis and have a play with a number of speakers side by side to see which performs best for your needs.

I’ve got a sonos roam for portable audio duties and pretty happy with it. quite heavy for the size of it to be honest, but the sound is good enough for me.

it also can be a stand alone bluetooth speaker or connected in to sonos/ wifi to supplement an existing system

Good question, don’t want to spend hundreds but if the speaker give a good sound etc then upwards of £200.

Thanks

love mine, mines a first gen but the latest ones you can pair up as well

hard to believe that this level of sound quality can come out of such a small package

As said below it will depend on budge, you have some UE that are good for the lower end JBL know make some good stuff about the £200 park then it goes up from there.

I have a Sonos Roam which sounds reasonable, a little bass heavy and the battery life could be better. Construction wise and connection wise it is excellent. The B&O A1 is possibly the best there is but is hard to find under £230. The JBL Charge 5 is great value and is somewhat rugged for outdoor use.

You are right the reviews for the JBL 5 are pretty decent, thanks for your recommendation on this one.
