Won't bore you with my entire car history, but I have a real soft spot for Japanese cars. I've had 5 Toyotas before including a GT86 and Yaris T Sport, MX5's, Ep3 civic Type R... you get the picture.

The T sport is still in the garage, although it hasn't been driven for over 18 months.

The last few years I moved away from Japanese cars and dabbled with Mini's. Starting with a 2006 R53 which I loved, sadly the MPG and repair bills meant in 2020 during peak covid it was sold and replaced with an R58 Coupe Cooper S.

These seem to get a lot of hate online, mainly down to its challenging looks. It was a brilliant car, relatively reliable for a mini with just the HPFP being the only failure in 3 years. Also managed to get rid of it for the same price as I paid, thanks to the madness of used car prices over the last year.

And this leads me on nicely to the latest purchase. I've been panicking about interest rate rises, cost of living and my mortgage which is going up by 60% in October... so I did the only logical thing and buy a Supra. There is method to the madness and a hefty (Hefty!) dose of man maths, but I won't bore you with that. And here we have it, 2022 Prominence Red 3.0 Supra. Its got a substantial 2800 miles on the clock, and turned a year old in May.

Here it is at the services on the way home from pick up. To say its like a new car is an understatement. A credit to its previous owner.

Safely back home after 80 miles. Car returned an astonishing 41mpg with cruise set to 70. I can live with that. around town MPG has been a lot worse, high 20's.

And my favourite view...

Need to take it out and get some proper photos at the weekend, but you get the idea. I originally was shooting for the 2.0, which has the same engine as the current crop of Mini Cooper S, as well as numerous BMW's. But I was left thoroughly underwhelmed with it. It wasn't keen to rev out the last 1500rpm which meant I found myself shifting early like you would in a diesel. It made an uninspiring noise, with the exhaust being almost entirely silent. Reviews online suggest the 2.0 is the better steer with less weight over the front, and whilst the 3.0 feels heavier, it suits the nature of the car much better.

Currently taking it easy, and trying to get used to 335bhp through the rear wheels. I'm no stranger to RWD, but this is by far the quickest and most powerful car i've driven. I am one happy petrolhead at the moment!

Thanks for reading.

Your Supra looks fantastic in red. cloud9

A neighbour has a silver/grey one which sounds great, but doesn't really stand out.

I think I need to try to get a drive in one of the manual ones!

Thanks all - I agree about the colour it really looks great in the flesh.

At my price point there was a few around; and because they all have the same spec it largely came down to which colour I preferred. Saw a yellow one, white, silver and then finally the red. Yellow is by far the most striking and really suits the car in the flesh, but it was just a bit too shouty and I thought it may get unwanted attention in car parks etc. the yellow also had the 2022 updated wheels which look very similar to what’s fitted to the GR Yaris.

The red looked fantastic first time I saw it. Originally it was my least favourite colour, as pictures really don’t do these cars justice.

The car has the remainder of the Toyota manufacturers warranty (upto 3 years), with the ability to automatically extend this to 10 years if it gets serviced at a main dealer. Helpfully as this is largely BMW the servicing is conditional based, or 24 months. Having checked with Toyota HQ this means a dealer service after 3 years will infact get you 2 years of full warranty. Not bad at all given the fixed price intermediate service is £300.

That's a lovely motor OP! I'm pretty impressed with that MPG, hopefully you'll bring that down a bit soon and make us all feel a bit better!

I'm interested in further updates and pics when you have them! I like that they're quite a rare spot out in the roads too.

Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

That's awesome - I came very close yesterday to chopping the LC for a manual Supra, but couldn't stomach the price offered on the LC.

How do you find it for exhaust tone etc?

Lovely car, and one that's on my wishlist. Presently have a Lexus RC300h, and looking at the Supra and early LC500.
Haven't looked at a Supra in the flesh yet, as I'm a bit put off after viewing many YouTube videos.
Please let us know how you get on with day to day use, be most interested to know.
Boot opening and info screen brightness seem to be the most annoying factors.
Don't want to p*ss on your fire, and give you doubts, as surely the looks outweigh the disadvantages!

Agreed, the boot thing is annoying, although there is a kit avaialble to retrofit a discreet button.

Info screen brightness (as well as many other useful features) can be coded with Bimmercode, done that and it makes a big difference.

Looks great in read, I think they look great although probably in the minority?

I think these are reliably putting out more than the advertised BHP, think they are closer to 360+ BHP.

I watched I think, every review on the Supra going before I bought it. The main criticism seemed to be that it’s basically a BMW in a pretty dress, which I find bizarre. And the wind buffering from having the windows down over 35mph.

Took it to work today (only have to be in one day a week) and it was a delight to drive, even in rush hour traffic. Much more compliant than the mini and returned 40mpg again, which I can’t complain with.

No issues around the brightness of either the dash screen or the infotainment. Can’t say I’ve noticed it being too dim at all.

The boot set up is frustrating, seem to recall the GT86 may have had something similar.

Exhaust and engine sound good… it’s louder than I expected, with a few subtle pops and bangs in sport mode. Suits the car well I think.

This is my Supra, bought a couple of months ago, which I chopped in my LC500 for (fed up with stupid niggly issues with it), was going to go used but got a better deal on a new one instead. The PX value I got for the LC was far better than ever thought I would get.

Car has been great so far, although I do have an issue with DAB reception - its basically rubbish in my drive to and from work - and there is a couple of rattles that I will be getting sorted out soon.

I bought a valve controller for the exhaust flap from the USA which allows to me have the valve always open or shut with a remote, I have it always open which makes it sound a bit deeper.

Getting the roughly the same MPG as you circa 40, but it does drop somewhat if you use all the available power.

They do look great in yellow. My wife wants one after she sells her Mustang.
