What estate? 18k budget

I've just sold my Cupra 300 and i'm after getting into an estate that will fit two lurchers.

I'm not bothered about performance, I ideally want something sensible that'll hold some value. I tend to change cars every 2/3 years.

I've had a look at black edition Leon FR's as they seem to be doable around the 18k mark, but I'm open to other suggestions.

For two large-ish dogs I'd be looking at a Superb or E class.

I’m interested to see what people suggest. No dogs, but we need a large estate for camping with kids and we have a similar budget. The price of secondhand cars at the moment has meant that, whilst browsing Autotrader, I’ve been surprised at how little 18k gets if you want something reasonably new.

If it helps OP, things we’ve been looking at include Octavia, Superb, E-class and A6.

Brand new Dacia Jogger, enormous boot with the third row removed. Benefit of up to 5 years warranty, good residuals any they are pretty rugged.

I have to say, we looked at a Jogger and it could be the answer. The roof rails are really clever too!

Looks are obviously objective, but I think it looks great. It's a very honest machine and a nice change from the overpriced over complicated opposition. Bit like a stretched take on the Yeti.

Personally, I've gone down the E Class route, twice.

My FIL went with a Superb. I haven't driven it but it's nice to passenger in it. It's the L&K so fully kitted. Ginormous inside.

He had an Octavia VRS before that which I did drive and really liked.

Styling-wise I love the big Volvo - V70? One the best-looking traditional estates.

I've also vaguely looked at Passat estates in the past when I was thinking of downsizing.

If push came to shove an Arteon (sp?) shooting brake with the 280 petrol engine is probably what I'd go for. No idea if it's good for dogs though.

V90 is a good shout, I'd much rather have a new Dacia over an Insignia though

I'd go Octavia, mainly as it's boot has a good height compared to a lot of others, as lurchers are reasonably tall dogs. We had a vrs for several years with a dog guard fitted, only sold to accommodate a third child.
The likes of superbs and volvos is they have deep boots with lower roof line. Should think you'll get a decent octavia, vrs or not, for 18k.

I had the misfortune of driving one and had to ring the customer to see if it was broken as it had no power. It was a horrible thing.

Not any use to OP but I saw a Toyota Corolla Hybrid estate the other day that was, in fact, a van. I love the idea of something like that. It just looked like an estate with blacked out windows but was a factory van, what a great compromise...

wouldn't a Corrola van be the better bet. Almost as much space with the seats down and the advantage of having seats if you need them.

It was a car based van, and yes, for most people an estate would be better, of course. I jist really liked the idea having a rather large Bull Mastiff and liking taking my bike places

Was in a similar position. Came down to Superb or S212 E Class. E Class won, the plastic steering wheel and general cabin look and feel of the Skoda I couldn't live with. The Merc, whilst is dated a bit now is a much nicer place to be.

D5? Compressor hose burst, common fault, doesn’t bring the MIL light on. I haven’t driven a T4, but had no concerns over power on any V90.
