BMW 420i computer programming question…

Thought I’d ask here as this doesn’t sound right.


My friends just bought a 2013 420i. The radio/media/command turns on, plays for about a minute, then shuts down and restarts again, it does this over and over again.

The supplying dealer told him to put it into BMW for reprogramming, which he has.

It’s in today, apparently this process takes 6 hours?

Doesn’t sound right to me, anybody got any experience of this?

That’s normal. It will be a full software update i
of all ecus on the car.

Yep bang on my car car had a full update yesterday after warranty work as a matter of course.
