So I have found the 997.2 C4S for sale that ticks all of my boxes…….apart from one.
The car is a late 2010 car, 66K miles and in stunning condition.
Service history all good, maintenance records, well, I hoped for more work carried out in the past but from what I can see, some items sorted, some I have to take on in my ownership such as engine mounts, exhaust fixings, condensers.
Now the current owner is the eight owner so I would be number nine and when I come to sell it, the new owners will be number ten.
Is this something that would put people off or make re-sale difficult?
Thoughts?
Thanks.

A 13 year old car with the Maintenance and Service Records you mention , my guess is it won't overly concern anyone . Even when comparatively new . finding a few previous owners is relatively commonplace

Thanks for this.
What is the right way of finding the previous owner list and history date events?
Am I being paranoid about the owner number thing?

No, not necessarily - definitely deserves closer scrutiny.
‘Suggests’ that no one has no one has fallen in love with it - and moved it on.
May be good reasons - but worth knowing - and an issue you may face if/when you sell.

For an older car it’s often a good thing as each new owner usually spends a bit getting something done. Whereas one person may have not bothered with anything for years.

To my mind, “only one owner” is like “one lady owner” or “owned by a doctor” which implies it’s had a charmed life but of course guarantees nothing of the sort.

Something like a diesel Focus I might be put off, however sports cars, motorbikes or anything else that falls into the 'toy' not 'transport' category is quite likely to be moved on after a summer of enjoyment for the next thing and multiple owners wouldn't immediately scream lemon to me like it would a boggo hatchback.

Been discussed many times across the forums.

Simply put a high owner car whether a Porsche or some other is no different to a high mileage car in that it is worth less money and for obvious reasons.

If you’re concerned about selling it on, then you’ve probably come to the conclusion that it taints the car slightly. In which case, move on and forget about it, or be satisfied that it’s reflected in the price.

On the other hand, if it’s taken a while to find a car that ticks all of your boxes, and this car may be a long term keeper, then go for it. You could always add in a 3rd party inspection if it helps you sleep better.

I think my 996 has 10 previous owners.

It’s got an inches thick history file, all the stamps, an engine rebuild at autofarm, and everyone who has been in it comments how amazing the interior still looks.

It’s a sports car that people will often buy to scratch an itch. If it’s been looked after, unless people are buying it to put it in storage, they probably won’t care.

These ownership threads always go the same way.

You can buy a 1 owner car which will be a dog and a moneypit and equally you can buy a 10 owner car which will be a dog moneypit.

Similarly you can buy a 1 owner car which be a minter perfectly maintaintained and ditto the 10 owner car.

BUT given two identical cars in identical condition with identical histories one being one owner the other ten and the 1 owner car will always be the most desirable and sell before the 10 owner and at a higher price too.

Cannot think of a single reason why it wouldn't.

I would insist on the list and some insight.

Once upon a time I bought a P car, and I was the 4-th owner.
Very well maintained, ticked my boxes, but to my horror I saw it printed in EVO magazine.

It turned out to be ex Press car and over time I had to spend few grand as extended warranty didn’t cover it for some actuarial reason.

Wouldn't bother me at all if it is the right car with the right service record.

It matters to some people, it doesn't matter to others. Bit like deviated stitching, or lightweight buckets.

If it matters to you, you know the answer and vis-à-vis.
