Hi,

Is this puncture location too close to the sidewall for repair?

Cheers,
Ed

Looks repairable... From a "shop" (goddam Americanisms!) it's within the central 3/4 of the tyre.

However, I had similar on my car, however it had acoustic tyres so they said it's unrepairable. I had purchased a couple of these

wlw XtremeAuto CAR VAN TYRE BIKE TRIKE TIRE PUNCTURE REPAIR KIT (10) https://amzn.eu/d/26blHSo

So gave it go, and it's been 100% solid since that point! Lots of motorway miles and the car has TPMS so I've been able to check the pressures and it's been spot on! So worth a go. Of course YMMV!

If you take it to Kwik Fit, it will be and they'll want to sell you a new tyre.

Take it to a local place and get it fixed and continue on for many more miles.

Thank you very much for the replies.

That's a relief given that the cost per (decent) tyre for this wee little Suzuki Swift (185/60 R15) is about £80-100. I've just booked it in for repair tomorrow at an independent.

I’d just plug it with one of those mushroom kits. Just save the hassle.

Isn’t the plug and patch method preferable?

I've used those kits numerous times and every time its been a complete success. I don't mind taking the wheel to a garage for a proper repair but every time I've done so in the past they don't want to repair it and try and sell me a new tyre so I save all the hassle now and do it myself.

Just had it done yesterday by a local tyre shop for £12. All good by the looks of it smile

Is it just me, or is that on the opposite side of the tyre? Is the tyre directional or have an outside marking?

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - asymmetric as they have markings on both sides. I think the bloke just put the rim on the opposite side post-repair.

I think you mean symmetric as asymmetric tyres can only be mounted on the rim one way, with the sidewalls having an inside and outside marked on them.

They’ve got a ring of foam around the inside to reduce noise.

You just remove a small section of the foam and repair as normal.

The last tyre picture posted we would have advised replacing as it’s starting to crack, yes it has tread but it’s starting to split.

Minimal cracking inside the grooves? Unless you're running the 24H Le Mans then yes, replace them for safety. I wouldn't bother. If I'd bother to do anything I'd rotate the tyres to the front to give them more wear.

OP, those tyres are perfectly fine. Steve must have shares in Goodyear.
