Brilliant!

And of course a win - win for Clarkson, his team got a podium and his own brand of beer and his TV show get free F1 publicity smile

Kudos though. He's a lifelong huge F1 fan.

A couple of work friends helped me with something and as a way of saying thanks later I got them a case of Real Ale.
A lot of people do stuff like that all the time.
Relatively speaking in wealth terms it probably cost me more than old clarksons effort which makes no sense beyond general look
at me publicity as it wasn't some nice thing they did for him (cant remember, was it finish a race?)
I guess there will be synergy's as he shows up around the alpine garage on freebies quite often now like he earned it.

Jeez the guy made a probably humorous tweet which most wouldn't have carried through on... he carried through didn't welch and is now getting criticism for it!

Anyway well done to clarkson for delivering.

Well done for relatively out-doing Clarkson. You mum will be mighty proud.

Interesting facts. Remember when Clarkhole said those horrible things about princess megan?
F1 meanwhile has frowned on the FIA chief for saying woman cant drive or something and SKY have clobbered Matteo Bobbi and Davide Valsecchi for some pretty harmless bloke banter.
All this seems like trying to get redemption stuff to me.

It's a rule of the internet - mention Clarkson, irrespective of whether he's done something good/clever/kind/mean/selfish/supportive/aggressive/stupid, you will find that exactly 50% of the reponses praise him and the other 50% claim he's a wker.

Strange, that people are unable to denounce wkerish things and praise wholesome gestures...

Clarkson is capable of both

Oh really? I missed this, what did they do? Valsecchi is one of my favourite commentators, the guy could make paint drying entertaining!

I think it doesn't help that the posters handle has 'fun' in the name yet he's soberly explained why Clarkson didn't on any level do anything nice or generous..

I think it's pretty obvious that Clarkson is more than smart enough to realise that going through with the promise was going to cost him a few hundred quid worth of product and has probably generated several hundred thousand pounds worth of marketing and good will - I agree with no_fun_doreen on that point. But I think it's only fair to expand that summary a little; Clarkson doesn't really need any extra publicity to shift his beer and his brand, and he doesn't need to get off his colossal backside to make a few extra quid. He's a genuine F1 fan and fan of the team and was most likely chiefly motivated by the meet and great and opportunity to have some fun, embrace his passion for the team and sport and basically spend some very interesting time with interesting people. Sounds like actual fun to me, irrespective of the resulting cost/reward of the effort - which I'm sure was interesting to the bean counters on both sides but as a bloke, it was an obvious fun jolly for him.
