Anyone sold a high mileage car before?
Discussion
So related to my other recent post,
Man maths have been done and the Mrs is more open to everything now that I've explained the Zed shouldn't really cost anymore to run that the year equivalent petrol 3 series (328i)when including warranty etc.
I've decided to go the one car route and am continuing on selling my mazda.
Thing is, I'm finding it bloody hard!
I'm no stranger to selling cars, I've sold all my previous cars privately including the Mrs ones. Used to work in sales, worked in the mototrade for a couple of years even. About 10 years ago me and a mate used to go the auctions and buy/sell them too as a bit of a hobby before he had his little one. What I'm trying to say is I somewhat know what I'm doing.
Can't seem to shift this thing at all. It's got 136k on it which is the highest mile motor I've had and also tried to sell though. Maybe the price is too high? Part of me thinks it's just a lot tougher as the subsection of people that aren't scared off is going to be a lot smaller. An outdated belief imo that harkens back to the BL days.
I've took decent photos, fresh MOT, has full service history. I've been clear about damage (only some small scratches and scuffs to alloys). It's top spec with heated leather, Bose sound system etc.
Just want to be clear that I am NOT trying to sell it here in this post, just asking for advice on what to do as I need it going quick as I want to be picking up the zed within the next 2 weeks ideally.
Got it on autotrader, Facebook and gumtree. Barely a bite, only a few calls from "best price" type of people.
Tried to follow autotraders price guide and also saw what other cars of a similar milage are going for. Everything else seems a bit crap compared to what I'm selling tbh in this price range but maybe that's just me having rose tinted glasses on my own motor.
I've had a look at motorway and WBAC but they're basically offering sod all for it due to its mileage.
I'm at a loss, never had so much trouble shifting a car tbh they're usually gone within the week in my experience.

I don't know, but I've heard of some reliability issues with Mazda diesel engines, so that may be damping interest.
If you want it gone quicker it's probably worth knocking another say 10% off the price, I guess it's not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things set against the hassle of keeping it alongside the new car ? Also remember that the other cars you see on AT are the ones that ppl found too expensive to buy, I usually try and come in a bit below other ads. And obviously if you think yours is better condition then sell that in the ad, but it sounds like you know what you're doing.

It's all about the price and the honesty of the advert.
Sold a Y reg 3.2 omega with 235k on the clock about 18 months ago.
I listed the faults, and priced it cheap.
No. Problems.
Sold it for £75 quid more than I'd paid 5 years previously with only 160k on the clock.
Price and honesty.
Out of curiosity how long did you have it on for and did you drop the price at any time to get it shifted? Sold a Y reg 3.2 omega with 235k on the clock about 18 months ago.

How much have you advertised it for? How long has the advert been up? What model year is it?
2015 2.2 skyactivD Sports Nav. It's the saloon/fastback varient which looks cooler imo but less practical than the hatchback which might be hurting it. I've got it advertised cheaper than other ones that are povvo spec, e.g. Ones that have cloth seats that aren't heated, no bose system etc.I've had it on for a couple of weeks now but usually get some bites by now. Especially being on all 3 platforms.
I do think the old mazda diesel engines with their DPF issues may be hurting the sale too as they have a bad rep. The skyactiv ones though are built like tanks. But people are set in their ways with cars I find and don't open their mind to changes in the industry.

te.com, omega owners forum, and someone off the bgeige forum, bought it unseen about a week after I'd advertised it. The price was only going to go up. I'd have had to fix the list of things I'd listed as wrong with it, and then advertise on autotrader for £350 more.

Anything will sell for the right price.
Unless it's quirky or unusual with a small potential audience, it's simply over-priced IMO.
Between 100-200k there'll be plenty of buyers but with a different set of expectations in price/condition than those shopping for something at 60k.
Aye I. Think you might be right there somewhat. However, I've looked at the next £500 down threshold (as that's what makes it easier to find on autotrader) and everything of a similar milage are all 15 year old sheds, just feels a bit mad to stick my half decent motor on next to things like a 2008 focus. Assuming it's the one listed on AT at 4K?
I don't think it's a bad advert really. Might be worth losing 'priced to sell' and 'first to see will buy' as those phrases sound a bit back street dealer to me. You mention having a 'heavy foot' which may make some buyers think its been thrashed.
I also think it would clean up a little better with a couple of hours and some elbow grease. Those scratches would be almost gone with some Maguires ultimate compound, even by hand. Alloys are a bit tatty and the tyres are budget's but I'd give them a coat of Tyre Slick which improves the look and takes minutes. Maybe photograph it on your drive or even perhaps a nice location like a local park. Anything to make it stand out.
Seems like a decent car at a good price so it should go really.

All good points tbh. I'd not even heard of Maguires tbh, only tcut. Yeah I took the photos on the front of the house as it gets much better light than our drive. I'm no photographer though so maybe they are a bit crappy. Think I'll just end up lowering it again in a few days if still no bites tbh. Thank you though. I don't think it's a bad advert really. Perhaps most people are looking for the hatchback. Why not try listing it as a hatchback “in error” (mention fastback/saloon in the advert if you prefer although the pictures tell the story) and see if you get more hits.
Is it euro 6? Some of the 2015 Mazda diesels seem to be. That has to be a selling point.

This is a great point. I’d get the phrase “ULEZ compliant” in your ad text somewhere. I’d imagine lots of Londoners/Brummies/Glaswegians/Bristolians etc are typing that in as a keyword. Also agree the fact it’s a saloon is hurting it. Do the rear seats fold down? Do you have a picture of it with the rear seats folded? Might help too.

These posts always always come down to price. There was another thread almost 9 pages long of the guy baffled why it wasn’t selling. Utter past of 9 pages of posts
It’s always price.
It's also how the car is presented. It’s always price.
If it looks like it's been pampered then it will sell quicker than a shoddy example even if it's a little more expensive in my view.
Good advice re. giving it a good clean and polish including tyre dressing.
IMO no need to do the detailed photos, they just show up dust/dirt that is difficult to clean.
4-5 of the outside, 2-3 of the interior plus engine and boot.
Maybe 1 showing both keys if you have them, service book etc..
