Head or heart?

Hi everyone. I am new to the site and, as you will see by my username, I have a desire to own a Mustang (GT or Mach 1). At least, in my heart I want one, but my ‘sensible head’ is presently keeping me from doing so.
I presently drive 2020 Audi A1 Sportback S line, contrast edition, in yellow, with black roof and badging.
It’s a 35 TFSI 150 PS.
I like the look of the car, it’s colour etc and it is pretty nippy for what I “need”.
I have a company van for work, so have the option of paying the tax and having personal use.
So, do I even “need” a car?
Probably not, but I “want” a car, especially as the van is tracked (even in my personal time). I also feel like I am always the “company man” when driving it.
I don’t like paying the taxman either, with money that can go towards my car.
However, I love the look of the Mustang, especially the S550 face-lifted model from 2018 onwards and I spend my life watching them on YouTube etc and, despite my sensible head constantly talking me out of it, my heart really wants one.
In order to buy a used 2018ish Mustang, I would be selling my A1, which has about 12K equity in it, and blowing my 10K savings. So my “sensible” head tells me that’s crazy, as I only use the car at weekends to pick up my kid for the weekend.
Also, my sensible head tells me that I will be paranoid about leaving a Mustang unattended outside of some of the places I go to see bands etc.
Then there’s the running costs. My house is paid for, so I don’t have a mortgage, but I am aware that my fuel costs will immediately, at least, double.
I’ve also seen the YouTube videos of the number of Mustangs losing control and getting totalled and worry about getting to pick my kid up in winter months, over the winding back roads where I live.
But my heart still tells me I want one.
I’ve looked at the new BMW M240i. Fast, sensible, reliable.
But it just isn’t a Mustang!
So, any advice based on actual Mustang ownership would be appreciated.

Always wanted a V8 mustang, brothers gf has one and drove hers a few times. Seems to have scratched the itch. I’m
not saying I wouldn’t have one but don’t have the same need anymore. Think they still look really good but I’d probably look at another car if I ever got the chance to buy something like that.

The Ford dealers did have a few 2022's left over but not one had the Recaro seats i wanted,
Probably be a few for come up sale and i'm in no hurry.
Still got the purple mach1 give Grace at Gates of Harlow a call they have a new white one with the Recaro seats in the showroom.

I was I a similar position recently and decided this was probably the last time I would have the chance to own a v8 so went for it and purchased a Mach 1. Absolutely love it, ok the fuel bit is a little! higher but it sounds awesome.
If I only keep it for a year then hey ho but at least I did it.

I owned a Mustang vert for just over a year. I found it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Servicing cheap, lots of really nice comments, sounds great, lovely car to cruise in and 100% reliable.
A word of warning, if asked what car you drive and you say you have a Mustang, in 90% of cases the next question is going to be ‘is it a 5.0L?’
At this point you want to be able to say ‘yes’ and not start waffling about the eco boost being lighter across the front wheels or how in the real world it’s just as fast as the 5L
Economy is actually pretty good, mine would do 30ish on a run and averaged about 23. They are cheap cars given how much fun they are. (Almost) everyone loves them.

I've had mine for about two months now, and while it took me a while to get used to it, I now love it.
I've had some better springs put on it and the Steeda IRS base kit, and it's night and day compared to standard.
Every drive is an event and I genuinely rarely have a drive out where someone doesn't comment or stare at it. Never had that kind of attention, even in my Alfa Giulia QV.

Just a thought, have you tried a fast road Geo setup? I've ran both a Bullitt and Mach 1 with this setup and find the handling very good, plus the Brembo brakes are superb. Yes the car is heavy, but it is more than capable if setup correctly. Hi, just saying hello, been on Pistonheads for over 20 years and managed to delete my profile by mistake, anyway after 19 years and 5 TVRs and 3 Porsche’s I have seen the light and just brought a 2020 Bullitt, so very different to the other cars I have owned, I will have a lot of questions to ask in the future so please bear with me.
