Vantage AMR wheel Question

Hello

I have a 2011 V12 Vantage and would like to upgrade to AMR wheels.

I’ve been looking (unsuccessfully) for the 10 spoke LW wheels from the later V12S.

Looking around I’ve seen the thicker spoked 5 spoke AMR wheel from the V8 Vantage and the “mesh” type AMR wheel from the V12 vantage.

I think they are dimensionally all the same diameter and width wise. Does anyone know the weight of each of these, trying to figure the saving from the standard V12 (non s) wheel and in comparison to the non AMR V12 S 10 spoke wheel.

Anyone know the weights for comparison?

These are the wheels I’m trying to compare the weights/sizes of;

I’m in the same boat. It seems easy to find the OE V12V wheels, but challenging to find the V12VS “lightweight” ones.

The black AMR ones don’t really float my boat, but in silver or light grey they’re ok.

Is there anything else that’s OE or OE quality that fits?

As far as I know the original V12V wheels and the AMR wheels are about the same weight as each other. The V12VS lightweight wheels are around 1kg each less than both those, and the Zagato wheels possibly slightly less again. All of these wheels are the same size, but of course that makes them larger than the OE V8 wheels.

I do not have any info on how the weights compare to the various V8 wheel weights.

These is a brand new set of AMR wheels on ebay for £6k which is pretty much exactly the price they were when they came out in 2017 so allowing for inflation thats a fair price for new.

Another vote for Dave Cooling - he knows his AM wheels!

Thanks for the feedback re weights. I guess the 10 spoke LW wheels remain the most desirable then, given actual weight saving over standard.

Perhaps you are set on retaining factory wheels on your car (although changing the wheel style, even if from the factory, will not preserve the originality of the car, anyway).

In case you aren't, why don't you look at getting a set of custom made, quality forged wheels from the aftermarket? This will give you a greater variety of options, and will enable you to tweak the offset within reason (if you want the wheels to sit out very slightly more, for example). I can recommend BC Forged (I have no relationship with the company other than being a satisfied customer). HRE is another option but they are generally more pricey.

Although officially made available in black and silver, the V12 AMR alloys were never truly available in silver. The set on my car had to be painted by HWM before delivery to the first owner. This tallies with a conversation I had with AM Bristol when I enquired about them in 2018(ish).

I only know of one other VH Vantage with silver AMR alloys. Not a massive problem to paint, and very much worth it!

Thankfully not as much of a pain to clean as everyone imagines (I’ve had so many comments about that!) as the carbon ceramic brakes don’t give off dust.

BTW - the official V12S winter wheel/tyre actually uses the V8 alloy shown above.

Now't wrong with black AMR wheels.

Looking great! My car is carbon black, I think I’d go for AMR’s in silver (or black) see if I can find a set, starting to give up on finding the 10 spokes. Just need a realistic price. A couple of sets on ebay but crazy money.

I've had a set of lightweight graphite wheels on order since Jan 2022 not sure whats happening but hopefully one day I'll get some soon maybe an idea if people want other lightweights then more on order the more avaliable they will become.

You can get the official AM prices for many parts including the lightweight wheels on HWM's website. Prices include VAT but do NOT include any discount you may of course be able to negotiate if you call them!

These prices are about normal for a full set of OEM wheels direct from AM. In my experience you should be able to get up to 30% off most parts if you have a good relationship with your AM dealer, maybe more for something thats old and obselete - however stock then can become a blocker!

There’s a set of AMR 19s on eBay, but it’s a big commitment as it’s £6k (and they’re black). I think I prefer the “lightweight” 19s, so will hold out for those.

Black wheels seem to come at me in waves - I’ve just crested my last one, so I suspect it will be a few years before I’m back on them. Unfortunately my car is black, with silver strakes and window trim, so it’s crying out for silver wheels…

When I bought my Vantage in the US, the price quoted to me for a set of AMR wheels was about $25,000USD from the dealer. ( Well, that included installation, ) That price you listed is closer to a per wheel price rather than a set of four. Are you sure that is for four wheels?

Yes i am 100% sure that price is for 4 wheels. They are seemingly out of stock however.

Not sure where there price you were quoted came from, it seems more like the price for the AMR “full body pack”, which was the option that included both the AMR Aerokit and a full set of 4 AMR wheels. Either that or they saw you coming…
