Hi

I wonder if anyone can help - I have a Sony KV-A2942U TV which no longer appears to power-up correctly.

This model is quite old, maybe 10yrs, but I don't want to have to buy a new TV just at the moment so I am trying to fix it.

I did a bit of searching and found the following article:

Sony KV-A2942U 13 Blinks and Dry Joints|http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?topic=2902&forum=34

I have the exact same LED blinking sequence so it looks like I may need a part, "Type STV9379, part number 8-759-506-46" if the re-solder attempt doesn't work. Can anyone advise me on where I might be able to get parts for old Sony models?

Finally, if anyone has any general advice I'd be glad to hear it. :)

Cheers.

roadie.

Get yourself across to www.avforums.com/forums/index.php and try posting your query on there.

It's full of TV and video nerds, Techies and knowledgeable retailers all of whom will be only too pleased to advise you.

It's like PH only with TV's instead of TVR's

Sony products...!

I've had a Sony VCR, camcorder and TV all go kaput. They were repairable, but at a cost

STV9379 is £2.50 + £1 post + VAT from www.grandata.co.uk (unfortunately they have a shit site design so I can't post a link directly to the part - go to the site, then "Catalogue" -> "Semiconductors" -> "Linear ICs" -> "STV" and scroll down).

But first check the soldered connections with a magnifying glass - any with a dark ring round them are dud and need resoldering. Don't forget to check the soldering of the heatsink mounting tags as Sony have been known to do really stupid things like use the heatsink as part of a ground conductor, linking two otherwise isolated ground areas on the PCB.

My last Sony TV lasted 17 problem free years. I've had my latest one for 7 years now.

What buggers tellies up is watching too much soap and reality TV 'Big Brother' especially causes them to self destruct and should be avoided at all costs.
