Evening all

Against my better judgement, I've bought another high bork potential car!

Daily school run/tip run car has been a really nice L322 tdv8 for the last 18 months.
I managed 20k miles in it with basic home servicing and a few extras such as replacing an air strut, turbo hoses etc. However I always started to feel that it was only a matter of time before the turbos went and presented a 2k bill!!

It looked nice on 22 inch wheels (albeit a bit dare I say - gangster) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
However, someone offered me decent money for it and so a replacement was needed!

I've always liked the look of the V70R - 300hp and AWD and it just looks cool!

However - major bork potential!

I looked at a few UK cars and also some imports. Lots that can go wrong here such as block liners, 4C suspension etc.

Eventually I found one that was advertised terribly on ebay - truly truly awful pictures. I saw potential and went to view it!

55k miles, Jap import, full Volvo history and immaculate paintwork!

I've spend last 2 weeks tidying it up - machine polish, painted wheels and calipers, interior clean, uk.spec radio, roof rails from an XC70....

It's definitely growing on me!!! Maybe a bit too low (it's on H+R springs)!!

Mrs Shenton is not convinced yet (not another blacked out drug dealer car!!!!) But the kids love it.

It's going in to have an air leak investigated next week and a general once over at a volvo specialist

What could.possibly go wrong???

Lots.......

Oh and a late night beer resulted in a cheap DVLA purchase....

Need to start topping up the bork fund......

I like that biggrin

I learned to drive in a Lancs Constab 850R and did my advanced driving with them in a V70R wink God I'm old... laugh

I saw that ad I think; agree, it wasn't the best...

I also seriously considered these late 2021 when I first sold my Japanese import BMW E39 530i Sport touring; but went with an F01 730D instead... More better the devil you know as I know little re Ovlovs and don't know any specialists local to me here in Preston etc

I think yours sits well; but I'd deffo get a steamer and remove the tints. It's an easy enough job Did that on my previous Japanese import E30 540i Sport; on a hot day too which really helped soften the glue etc...

You can always get lighter tints fitted etc...

Bookmarked biggrin

V70Rs are such great looking cars. I'm half heartedly looking into estates at the moment and there seem to be quite a few jap imports washing about on Autotrader. Not sure I've got the balls as I've heard they can deliver big bills but fair play for taking the plunge!

Doesn't look like it sits particularly low. Great car though! Like it a lot!

I considered a Jap import but the added complexity of the R bits plus auto put me off

Ended up with a UK T5 manual and so far so good, needs a new radiator this week but these things happen

After seeing the title, I didn’t need to read any further than this to know exactly what you’d bought. laugh

Love these and I am also a person who has considered buying one, on more than one occasion. Around a year ago, my friend bought a JDM B8 S4 Avant from a dealer who had two JDM V70R for sale too and they looked great and got me thinking about buying one again. However the lack of manual examples and being more risk-averse than normal on my daily, the potential borkage ruled them out for me again.

However I hope that I shall now observe you enjoy a serene and absolutely trouble free ownership experience. thumbup

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

Im still unsure about the colour of the wheels - when i got the car they had been painted black which looked awful. I've gone for anthracite but am contemplating putting back to standard silver - views?

I've got a couple of issues to sort and have the car booked in with a Volvo specialist as my Icarsoft reader is not sophisticated enough - I have a warning on the 4C suspension unit- I think it's likely to be a sensor on one of the struts. I also have a slight vaccum leak as my diagnostics is picking up out of tolerance air intake/fueling. Again, a simple fix but I dont have a smoke tester!

Other than that, it's a case of enjoying it! The dog seems to prefer it to the L322!

Only other thing is the cambelt - it's done 62K miles and Volvo servicing interval is 100K miles. However the car is 10 years old so i think I may have to bite the bullet at some point. I think it's quite an involved job so wont be tackling it myself!

The warble from the stainless exhaust it great - that 5 pot noise is really something

Cheers all

Re wheels; my personal preference is for contrast - so dark car > lighter alloys / light car < darker alloys etc

I think a bright silver would look well; platinum silver or maybe a sparkle silver?

Ferric grey would work; but it'd be overall dark then

MDMA .

I really like these. Might have missed it, but is this an auto or manual? I know the manuals are pretty rare on the R model. Many, many years ago, I went to Daniel Curnock (The 80’s Emporium) to buy a graphite 850R. Came away with a Helios blue MK2 GTi 8v instead. Wished I’d got the Volvo but it was mega mileage back then. Manual though, so quite collectible. It was also less than £4k at the time.
