Approved Used BMW F30 318i - Service History Question

Hi there,

My friend is looking to buy a 2018 318i 3 series, currently on 32,000 miles.

The sales advisor sent over a video showing service history details in the iDrive.

We are aware of the condition based servicing schedule in BMWs but the recommended next service is not until 2024, which seems excessive since the last service was on 2021, even taking into account the low mileage?





Also, the oil service was last done in 2020 and next oil service is not due until 2024 according to the computer.



Everything says "OK" in the computer though.



Would appreciate any input/advice. Anything to be worried about?

I think there is 1 missing on the idrive, the last two have been carried out outside of BMW hence dealer being 0000, first service would have been 20, second would have been 22, third service is due 24, in 21 it would have been a brake fluid change. I guess there is a missing service not shown, but maybe online.

Many thanks for your reply and insight. Was wondering about the dealer being 0000.

You're bang on about the brake fluid change in 21, we can see it's been done according to iDrive.

Anything to worry about do you think in terms of service history? Bit disappointed to not see some BMW dealer service history, considering it's being sold from a BMW Approved dealer.

Not really, they are not bad engines the little 3 pot, just check to see if the service in 22 was a full one, normally it’s oil, then oil, all the filters and plugs.

See if the dealer can give you a print out, when we update the dsb it gives us a box to tick to say transfer service to the car, it’s a bit hit and miss if this does it in the aftermarket world.

Not a lot to worry about IMO

However; I'd budget c£500 straight away and get it serviced to within an inch of its life so you know its done...

All fluids, all filters etc

Cheers for the reassurance. It's from a main dealer so we can request a service to be done as part of the deal hopefully.

If the 2022 service record cannot be found, then surely they would then service it you'd think.

yes don't get fobbed off about 'condition based servicing'. Put your foot down that you'll only purchase on the criteria that a full service is done.

Without getting into the implications of a missed service, this looks a little strange to me.

I believe these cars have a CBS of c15,000 to c18,000 mile oil change interval or 2 years. If this is true I think the CBS has been reset last year at about 28,000. Unless the 2021 action was an oil change and the time period for service is 3 years. The question is if a service was actually carried out. As the car has been out of the network without an update on "the system" I don't think the Dealer will be able to help.

The question mark would be if this is at a BMW Dealer, how the service history is verified to meet the AUC standards with the apparent gap.

its likely had a service but was wiped from the service history when updating the idrive. service was probably carried out and not recorded on kasio hence its gone walkies.

That's the problem. Mine (B48 engine) doesn't even have a dipstick, so I can't even check that the colour of the oil has changed. I can't even guarantee that the oil was actually changed at any service. Drives me mad - I can't see the oil to check colour, and I have to rely on a digital 'gauge' to check the oil level.

Looking at a different car now, doesn't seem worth paying the extra for an Approved car when it doesn't look like the car was looked after especially well.

Just goes to show it's always good to check an Approved car as much you would with any other car - perhaps more likely to find a good car at an Approved but by all means no guaranteed.

N47 320Ds have them in the same position as the above picture; just need to look for it as they're black/well hidden
