Jag XKR v Maserati GT v 911 - thoughts please
Discussion
Hi PHers - one gloriously sunny day is making me take leave of my senses. I’m now considering buying a car that will put a smile on my face every time the sun comes out.
I want something that is stunning to look at, has at least GT car performance and won’t cost the earth in ownership costs for a 12-18month stint.
Two budget ranges:
(1) circa £10k - thinking maybe a Jag XK. Thoughts on this and any other alternative suggestions?; and
(2) £10-25k - face-lifted Jag XKR v Maserati GT v Porsche 911?
All thoughts, suggestions, alternatives and items to think about welcome.

At ~£25k you're close to the cheaper V8 Vantage prices.
No idea what the quality of them is like - but I had one for 4 years (after a 996 turbo) and never regretted the change. Much better looking than the 911, much nicer place to be when driving - not as fast by any means, but still a pleasure to drive.

Very different cars. I have a Maser GTS Auto which I love but the Jag is very attractive also, especially as the F Type is just too short to my eye. A 911 at that price point will be very old and I would be nervous about geometry, tyres and suspension but maybe that is due to someone up here in Scotland losing his life in one recently (no idea how BTW). Others will see the list differently so drive a nice example of each and choose!

I'd say the 4.2 XKR is the pick at around 12k, they're a good car:I want something that is stunning to look at, has at least GT car performance and won’t cost the earth in ownership costs for a 12-18month stint.

Now you could get a 5.0 XK8 for similar money.I don't see either as a bad option:

If you're considering a GT make sure you get the 4.7 but one of these will be at the very top of your budget:

At 10k for a nice GT, I'd suggest taking a good look at the 5.5 CL500:

Now for around 15k you can get a later 4.7TT CL500 which is the better allround package over the 5.5 & is quicker & better on fuel too:
