i was sitting at the pc looking on fleabay for a phone as you do.. and my car alarm went off. this was a first as i have had the car for a year and never set it off. anyway my 13 year old niece says "uncle your car alarm is going off."
so i rush outside, turn the alarm off, no obvious signs of damage or anything. i then notice she is unloading shopping from my daily driver.
i then started the car up, i t has not been driven for two weeks, yes i know shame on me,and it starts fine so no low battery then i notice a message on the screen " boot open ."
so i ask my niece " did you open the boot? " and she says no.
no big deal , but i know she has opened it, no damage done so why deny it? she is a very intelligent child, well brought up , but she has this habit of denying things she has done.why?
sorry about the long post but i cannot understand why she lied about something so trivial. if she had said yes it was me, then i would have said make sure the boot is shut before locking the car up.
apologies again for the long post.

i dont know your neice so dont know why she would say that, maybe she thinks that she will get told off if she said yes. im not saying that you would but sometimes kids get that into their heads.
i have a 5 year old nephew and he lies about little things sometimes, and sometimes its blatently obvious he has done whatever he said the opposite to. sometimes he blames it on his sister(2 years old) other times he will have done something to make her cry and not admit to it.
the main thing with him is i suppose his age, i guess

true mate, but what trouble would she have gotten into?
i would have said dont do it again. i dont shout at people in general and definately not at my sisters kid, her mum does enough of that.
i reckon its because its been that long since i was a kid i forget what it was like.
although when my dad asked me , when i was 15, did you crash the car into the house son? i did say yes.

i know what your saying, but if she didnt you wouldnt shout at her, then maybe she would just say no
im only 19 and i remember when i was younger i used to say no just to some questions i was asked so that i wouldnt get into trouble, even though if i had told the truth it would have been okay.
i didnt even know how to drive when i was 15, how did you manage to drive into your house?
my dad was away in india on business and had been for the best part of a year. we had bought another house but had not moved into it. the car was parked on the drive and was a runner but ready for the scrappie. i asked my mum can i have a motorbike, all my friends have etc, she said no. i then asked if i could have the car,she said yes. i think she was under the impression i would just wash it etc. it was an automatic and our drive was loose tarmac, so i decided
