Snapped a coil spring on the f30 this morning. I usually purchase from C3BMW, they can offer me some KYB springs. I've never heard of this brand before, anybody know if they are a decent?

Yup; fine... They're what I ran on my E38s. Those and Boge

However, what about some Eibach pro kit springs unless you simply want like for like OEM wink

Cheers Dan, I think I'll stick with like for like. I don't want anything stiffer given the crappy road surface around here!

The Eibach pro kit springs are superb pal; very much OEM with normal driving but progressive that they'll firm up when you're pushing the car a bit

They'll lower about 10-15mm max really

I ran them on my Japanese import E39s (touring and saloon) and will be fitting them to my F31 come the New Year (BMW warranty ends) with Bilstein shocks all round as part of a suspension refresh

Honestly; they're not stiff at all; just do a better job than OEM springs IMO

But do get the ease of like for like too

My F30 is an ED so it's already 10mm or so lower than standard, I wouldnt want to go any lower as I've caught the underside on some speed humps and rough ground! I've ordered the KYB springs and should be here Monday, I've got a mate with a lift so it should be an easy job?!

Ah they wouldn't lower much more then... But sounds like you've got it sorted

Will be easy enough to do; if you can get under there and douse all the bolts with WD40 and have some Wurth Rost Off Ice to hand; it's brilliant stuff

IMO as it's all got to come off/out; it's a good time to replace the top mounts and the dust boots/bump stops... Worth bearing in mind as it'd be a PITA to have to do it all again

Thanks for the heads up! What happens to the top mounts which would require replacement?

They wear over the years; so just makes sense to replace them whilst you've got to take them off etc...

You can get OEM BMW or the likes of Lemforder, which are OEM also, but without the BMW tax...

I'd do it personally; not saying you have to etc

I've never used KYB springs, but their dampers are absolute rubbish. They rust like a sod and piss oil out after a while. Some of them don't even fit properly.

KYB are quite a common oe fit on many Japanese cars, I have used them on Mrs E's Mazda with no issue.

I stopped using them after one warranty claim too many.

I ordered a pair for an E34 5 Series and they were skinnier than the proper ones - KYB included a plastic spacer tube to take up the size difference - I just laughed, handed them back and ordered the proper Boge ones.
