I purchased an approved used car from Audi Just under 12 months ago. The warranty for the vehicle is up soon and I've been offered to renew on one of there schemes... which I have been thinking about. However, I had it MOT'd by my local Audi dealership end of last week and got a printout of the history.

The car went from a recorded mileage of 31k miles in 2020 to 63k miles in 2022 without a service in a main dealer (it may have been done independent but I have no proof of this however i think that is irrelevant for my query here...)

Audi states on there site that the vehicle will have “clean, transparent record and independently checked mileage.” Audi website and service schedule clearly states that the vehicle must be serviced every 2 years or no more than 18,600 miles as quoted on the Audi site.

I have always been under the impression that all main dealers will not retail a car unless it has full dealership history - certainly every one I've purchased in the past has been up to date on servicing.

This to me is unacceptable, what are peoples thoughts?

Was the car represented as having a full Audi service history at the time you bought it?

If it was, it's MK Audi's problem to sort out. If it wasn't it's yours (Though you *may* get some goodwill from either Audi or the dealer if you approach them in the right way)

Audi's website lists "Audi Service History" as one of their benefits of buying approved used.

Based on that, any car without a full Audi history should not be sold as "Approved Used", so I would say that's the supplying dealer to explain/sort out.....

As Skodalan has listed above. Audi states all vehicles under the used approved scheme come with Audi Service history.

I know the likes or Porsche/BMW etc will not entertain selling a car through their own approved used cars without full dealer history - those cars tend to end up on the likes of Sytners 'select' forecourts.

So after enquiring about other Audis within the Audi network - it appears Audi do not have to retail cars with full dealer history.

Assuming then my vehicle must have had a service between those intervals and Audi had proof of this before trying to retail it - the struggle I have is trying to get this piece of history 11 months on from purchasing the vehicle...

A lot of what you've posted above is 'generically' or 'usually'....

What about your specific car? What have you got from when you bought it? Did you save the advert?

I think you should have checked when you did the deal to buy it.
I wouldn't pay reasonable money for a used car without checking the service schedule to understand what servicing had been done and what I was likely to need in the next two years. Cam belts are the obvious example of a big bill in that mileage area, but there are others.

I've had an AUC BMW which had had some services done at an indie specialist. When queried they said that as long as it passed the big checklist it qualified for the scheme.

If you look at the service indicator on the car does it tie in with the missing service ?

For some reason Audi don't log everything online, my brother has just purchased an A4 privately and has a full history, but when i log in to the DSB it doesn't show anything.

I did check the last service and was told the vehicle had full service history. Its my own fault for assuming it would have been in the audi network. I now need to chase up where the other service was and for any details on it providing it was done.

The cambelt and a lot of other remedial work was completed prior to me buying it from Audi.

It only shows when the next service is due unfortunately not like a BMW that shows you all services. (Unless you know of a way to show this info?!)

If it’s not been serviced to schedule on the computer and there’s no paper history to prove it has I’d go nuts with them.
Although to be fair I’d have specifically asked to see the history before buying, no question, either hard copy or via Audi customer services if it’s centralised.
I have a Kia Stinger that needs 6k/6m services to keep up the 7 year warranty and you’d be amazed how many cars are advertised with ‘full service history’ when they’re missing half the services in the book - nearly every car I considered wouldn’t have met the warranty requirements. Bonus is there’s no central record like BMW etc so if you lose the service book you’re stuffed…

This is really what started me off - the vehicle was advertised as full history. Now from what I can see the car needs to be serviced every 2 years or 18,600 miles. The warranty is up at the end of this month so I wanted to renew but surely if the car has missed a service and the warranty company see this they wont warrant half of the car...

Ive contacted the supplying dealer and the first thing they said is it met that, as I have pointed out it clearly didn't as it was over 12k miles more prior to the next service. He finally understood the service requirements as 18,600 miles or 2 years - whichever comes sooner and agreed it appears to have been missed.

Im waiting for a call back from them...

Yes I wish i'd checked, but I had just about had enough of trawling around the country looking at cars without full service history and issues which is why I went to Audi website and clicked on the buy it now button and reserved online. I thought going to a main dealer was a safe bet...

Main dealers are just as shonky as everybody else, they’ve just got better coffee.
I’d be wanting them to take the car back as they’ve lied but a year later I’d guess you have no chance. Free services, free warranty extension, something like that would help, but in the back of my mind I’d always be thinking about sludge and turbos.
Do you have any screengrabs of the original advert? Another thing I always do.

I think all you can do is try and work it out,

Lets ay it was serviced at 20,000, 40,000 and the car is now on 65,000 but there is no stamp at 60,000, but the car says 15,000 until next service, it would look like it was serviced at 60,000 but with no paperwork to back it up. I don't if diagnostics will say, we haven't got one in for me to check, but if we get something i'll try and have a look.

I take it the warranty you wish to continue is a proper Audi extended jobby?

Would contacting Audi themselves and explaining and see what they say in relation to honouring any warranty claims be helpful in your case? If they say (and put into writing) there nothing to worry about then you’re golden with regards to the warranty but if they umm and ahh then that may give you a bit more ammunition against the dealer?

Apologies for seeming a bit suspect with signing up just now although I have been lurking on the forums for some years.

I do work for VWG so thought I'd finally sign up just to try and help out in case you don't get anywhere with the retailer. Bear in mind I'm a little limited with what I can advise and provide though, I'll leave that to the retailers to advise in person or writing as I know how often forum information impacts customer cases when discussing queries and complaints.

Whilst there may be a gap in history on the main vehicle database (VMS) there is another system which history is stored (ELSA) and can hold service history from independent garages should they sign up and pay for the use which is how some of them advertise they can retain full service history records with the manufacturer.

I would like to think that when the retailer prepped the vehicle for used car sale and then advertised it as a full service history but do not have physical paperwork to back it up that the gap in history can be visible across the systems they have available to them.

Depending on how comfortable you are with it I could check the systems for you just to see what is logged and screenshot you with anything you feel you might be missing. Can PM me if you wish, if not no worries just thought I would try and help out where I can smile

Yes and no - I'm in two minds to chop it in for something else. But the missing history (or at least extended service history interval..) will have a negative effect on the vehicles value.
