Hi All,

Medium term lurker here, I picked up a new (to me) approved used G80 M3 on Tuesday and I had a couple of questions.

1. It appears to have a tracker that the dealer has no knowledge about (I've pushed and they don't seem to have a clue). I'm keen to get this up and running for the insurance savings, but I feel a bit stuck as to what to do. I've got the fob but little else in terms of info.

2. I live quite remotely so I'm looking to get hold of some winter wheels/tyres, I've struggled to find anywhere that can supply. I've seen a few sets on ebay, but I'm not 100% sure what will fit, as the listings say they fit but the wheels/tyres are different sizes to those fitted OEM to the car, will they actually fit?

Cheers
Ed

https://www.teletracnavman.co.uk/

These guys are used a lot by BMW as are Trackstar.

Give them a call, they can tell you if its their system in seconds and send a ping to the car if it is.

Good call on asking BMW's preferred supplier, but what a tardy dealer not to know and not to deal with the issue for you.

if I traded in car with such a device, I'd want to make sure I was no longer associated with it , so is it possible it was a 1 year subscription and that's now expired? You could presumably reactivate if the device is in place.

The dealer's lack of knowledge makes me think , maybe they got the car from an internal auction, with the fob (tags) simply attached to the keys , rather than a part ex, where they knew the registered keeper.

Maybe another suggestion is to contact the dealer who supplied the car , in the first place, and ask them. They may have fitted it.

The fob Looks just like the ones advertised on their site so I'll give them a call tomorrow - cheers!

Agreed - I did wonder if I should just drive around in it without the fob to see what happens, the car beeps when unlocked and locked so I'd presume that the tracker is initialised.

You've certainly described exactly how the keys and fob (singular) were presented to me, so this sounds very likely scenario.

If you drive around, with the tag absent, then the person registered should get a phone-call.

That's why I don't think it's live. Irresponsible if it were, that means the person with access to the account would know the location and movements of your car, online , usually there's an app.

I'm not aware there's any beep from these devices when you unlock the car

Trackstar and teletrac navmann are one and the same, by the way. Should have two tags/fobs. Again, as you have one that's, in theory, irresponsible.

Difficult to say without knowing the car's details, how many owners etc. But it seems more likely that the supplying dealer fitted it and if the plate begins Y and then A-K it would likely be BMW UK. One of theirs, put into an internal action and one of the Approved Used dealers snapped it up.

There have been a few Rosso red BMW cars released into the network. I missed a very cheap one at Grimsby.
