If you look at the Moon, and then go right a bit, you'll see a bright red (what looks like a star) planet. 2003 and 2005 will show the brightest Mars for thousands of years. Definitely worth a look, I reckon!

So let me understand, Mars and Earth are at closest approach for thousands of years, and Charlie can't be bothered to walk 20 yards. He'd rather surf the net!

Let me put it this way, in order to see over my roof i have to go into the middle of the road outside,

Now, the thought of me wandering around outside in just my boxers scares me, let alone what it would to to some of the taxi drivers round here.

Sh!tty hole! You're not wrong.
Even up here, in a far distant Galaxy, 'Twixt the moon and the Milky Way I can see that Stella object of which you speak...
I would take a photograph, but I fear the 0.00001" CCD of my Cheapanon camera would struggle to do justice to the scene.
Instead I will post a picture of my willy...

Dammit, I can never get pictures to work

Well I took a piccy, but I'll not post it. The best I could get was one slightly grey/brown pixel. The moon fits into a 16 pixel square.

It is pretty bright with the eye though. Brighter than the stars, at least if I'm looking at the right thing.

No moon, no mars... It's just to the side of it..If there is no moon, there is no mars? Is that not scientific enough for you?

The thing to look out for with Bino's is to make sure the front lenses are are big as poss because you need to catch as much light as you can, and from what I have seen highest power is not always the best.

Not as close as 2003.

Even at its closest Mars is never that spectacular - although its reddish colour is always obvious.

Venus and Jupiter are always much brighter than Mars can ever be - Venus because its closer and much more reflective and Jupiter because its HUGE.
