M5 Running Costs
Discussion
Not as bad as you would expect.
My M5 oil service, taking my own oil, was under 100 at a main dealer. Warranty is ESSENTIAL. I have had Vanos units (£5k), 2 alloys, and a diff on warranty.
Fuel consumption on mine is poor about town, but mixed driving has resulted in 22 since I got it, and easily over 24 on a long motorway run.

Oil Service on mine at an Independant is £102.
Inspection 1 at the Indy was £187.
This is on a 2001 car with no warranty. In the last 18 months since I've had it, other than the services above I've had to replace all 4 brake discs plus a rear anti roll bar, that little job came to £790.
I also had to replace 2 Lamda Sensors (which were done at the same time as the MOT) and that came to £346.
All in all I think it's not too bad considering the performance, I also find that I'm getting about 18k miles between services as the green lights count down.
My next Service though is the Inspection 2, but I'll use the Indy again as they seem to be better than the dealer when it comes to the engine...

Sorry for delay in replying... There is a kind of known issue (denied!) where the base (black) comes through the finish on the wheels - looks a bit like tar. It isnt covered by extended warranty, but I was lucky and the area warranty manager was in town and in a good mood, so I got both offside wheels replaced...

Watch out for tyres. Mine chewed front tyres every 10K miles or so.
I must be lucky I've put 31k on fronts since I've had the car, they were already on so not sure of the exact mileage they've covered. The rears (which I put on)have done 27k and are down to about 3ml.
