Hi Guys

Any thoughts on the Ghost II immobiliser as added security?
The bumph sells it as pretty unfailable.

Yes?

No?

Any ups or down to having it fitted?
Or anything BMW specific that says 'don''t do it'?

I’d have a read though this (extended warranty, Ghost added, engine blew up, warranty voided due to Ghost, taken to ombudsman) :

Right decision in the end, but really put through the ringer, and unclear if car continued to be covered by warranty

Hi and thanks. This seems to be a lot about warranty insurance, as opposed to motor insurance. I got the impression that motor insurance companies welcomed added security. My M4C is currently under BMW warranty, so that's a question that needs to be asked before fitting Ghost I guess.

Don't do a single thing to your car "mod" wise, that warranty will be instantly void!

Yeah, I know. It's that question isnt it - is Ghost a 'mod'? The mere sugestion that fitting Ghost could cause the engine to blow up, eers me towards NOT getting it fitted even after end of warranty. I wonder would it help if Ghost became approved by Thatcham? Currently it's not.

Get a Disklok as a visual deterrent.

The Ghost 2 is TASSA approved (For Insurance Approval, the TASSA accredited Ghost II must be installed by a TASSA Approved Installer – TTW are now a TASSA Approved Installer!)

Also look at https://www.pandoracaralarms.co.uk/smart-pro-v3-ca...
might be better than Ghost as its an actual alarm aswell

Aren't those Diskloks pretty east to break and remove though?
Also, you mention a visual deterrent, but I think these things draw attention to the car tbh.
Still worth considering.

I kind of latched onto Ghost II because they seem to be getting quite big in the market. Not heard of Pandora but will look into it

I guess its better than nothing, if its out on the street then I would have one, maybe Stoplock Pro?

The Pandora has extra feature you may want but some of them come with a subscription.

I had a Ghost II on my BMW M240i, to be fair I never had an issue with it, it did the job but I never had anyone try to steal my car either so it wasn't put to the test.

I did contact the BMW extended warranty company and they advised me they wouldn't cover the car with the Ghost fitted to it as it was considered a modification, which in fairness it is because you are modifying the car from it's standard spec as BMW made it.

I had the Ghost removed around 12 months ago as I was thinking of selling the car when fuel prices went over £2 a litre, I still have the car now as I changed my mind but no Ghost.

Maybe if I had a full fat M car I would get another but having owned my M240i nearly three years I feel comfortable enough not to need one now.
