Part from scrappy or dealer?

Hi,
Having owned my f22 m235i for a few months, I've only now established after noticing my air con wasn't blowing out cool air, and getting it looked at that my air con compressor pump needs changing.
It's a pretty expensive part new from dealers, is getting one off a m235i that's breaking a no brainer?
Is it common for an air con compressor pump need changing on my car?

Seized? Leaking? Rattling? Are you sure the compressor is the only problem on the system?
Personally I don't think it's worth cutting corners on A/C. Even if they give you a warranty on a used part you'll have all the labour and gas to do twice if it's no good. I'd either go for a full fix or live without it.

But not with the AC system
IMO the part needs to be new with warranty
Check Cotswolds BMW for a price but also see what you can get it for via BMW dealers that use eBay to sell parts; get your part numbers via RealOEM
I've rarely fitted a new AC pump to anything - always secondhand and never had a problem. It's down to price - from BMW it'll be £1000+ or about £350 for an aftermarket one. £100 for a used one?
Denso made virtually all compressors for BMW at this age.
It's unlucky to have one fail as they're very reliable. Just make sure to get one with the correct part number.
Make sure it really is the compressor though. If it doesn't work even with the system gassed, it may require diagnostics to tell the car that the compressor can be activated following an AC recharge. I've had this in the past. With the slightly older stuff from the late 2000's, a non working AC fan or faulty expansion valve would shut the compressor off.

Generally I'd argue that fitting used parts to a used car is not a bad thing.
But I think it depends on the fitting costs as these can mount up. With an aircon fix it will require regassing and if you have a newer car that uses the newer gas it can prove very costly.
But the dealer cost for an aircon compressor will be way above the same part from the original manufacturer. So go after market, if you can find the manufacturer you can probably get exactly the same part for half price elsewhere.
